probably just a helping hand, I don't go in for really hard stuff (I'm too scared) so its simply if I get cross axled or similar situations - I won't fly in thinking I have a winch to get out....

wel if its not for serious self recovery and just occasional use
6000lb is what you want
then if you do get into a pickle you got the extra 3 thou t get u outta the pickle,
and if its a verybig pickle you can double up which give you 12000lbs pull wich is roughly 5200kg afink
if you look on ebay there some nice cheap superwinch x6's coming up now, there good just abit slow but wil get you out of trouble all for 150 ish quid

well ano its heavy and a pain in the rear end but, i used to carry a block and tackle around with me wen i 1st started
3.5tone, nothing to burn out apart from your fuse pulling it constantly
if its occasional and nuffing serious then get a 6000lb pull cos you got just a little bit spare the to get u up and moving if your bogged down

I've got one of those, greeat for pulling the caravn up to the car but for any sort of LR recovery then NO, the potential for something to go awry and end up over loading the winch, it's not worth the risk.
Get yourself a winch kit for the Hi Lift instead.
