Will This Fit?
« on: November 18, 2006, 21:12:03 »
I've mentioned steering wheels before on here.

I saw a Metro (sorry... Rover 100) at 'small-childs' school the other day & it had an interesting looking wheel in that seems just the job

There's one on offer on E-Bay at the moment, but I'll look in the local scrappers for one

So the bottom line is, does anyone know if it will fit? (before I trawl the yards)

I have seen these in defenders but am not sure which ones - they either fit the early or late ones!

Porny-Ian will probably know

series used the same boss as mini's and allegros - later rover type metros are a lot smaller boss - so may well fit

I don't know for definate... but I agree with bezzabsa...

I know that metro steering wheels don't fit Series Land Rover because of the different splines.... but mini ones do - well mini ones fit Series Land Rovers - which have the thick type spline set up as per 300Tdi Defenders and peasent spec Td5s  ( )

BTM, your Td5 should have the CSW type steering wheel (the one with the large centre bulge).   In which case you will have the thin spline set-up... but I'm not sure if that is the same number of splines as a late type Rover steering wheel.

Might be worth an email to a seller if there is any on EBay... get them to count the splines!!

Why do you want to change??  I quite like the steering wheels fitted to CSW Td5's.

In this situation, it might be case of bitting the bullet and trying it!!

Ian, I'd like a smaller diameter wheel (might be able to use the 'Disk-Lok' I have hung up in the garage as well

Is a metro one any smaller???

I'm sure you've seen my QT one before, but even with the adaptor I don't find it too bad... (i.e. too close)

Did it have the pins on the bottom of the boss to activate the self cancelling function??

With the QT boss, you just take the ones off your old steering wheel....
