Waste Recycling
« on: November 25, 2006, 10:23:36 »
We have been recycling cans, plastic, paper now for about 6 years and now the local council are handing out bins for all the different types of waste, woe betide you if your bin goes out early, or if the lid is open slightly, or if you place the wrong waste in the wrong bin I have read that other councils are slapping £100 fines for such incidents.

I feel that we have to recycle household waste, if only for our future generations.
However a news report from Sky today makes a mockery regarding plastic recycling.
http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-13553680,00.html

When all plastic can be recycled safely in the UK, which I though it was, it is shipped to China and is producing more pollution than ever being recycled by under paid workers, including children.
Who are the fools now, and who is making the money at the expense of the unfortunate

Maybe as much as 80% of recycling is non-recyclable much of plastic isn't, glass isn't, recycling paper is more detrimental to the environment than growing and cropping trees, removal of compostable waste to compost it and then bring (sell) it back produces loads of co2

The EU ecological program is speeding up the demise of the natural environment - not something that should be left in the hands of the governments or do-gooders.

We still havn't got wheely bins in Caythorpe   However and the only recycling I can do is save everyhing up and take it to Asda or the recycle point in the village.  Have they put the chips in rhe weely bins yet in Grantham?
I try to recycle everything possible, but we are limited to cans, plastic bottles only, card board and magazines! One thing that always bugs me are Plastic bags where can I get rid of them safely?

Heres a thought.

I just half filled a bin bag with a months junk mail and circulars.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Thats such a waste........ I always just pop it all back in the post cos why the heck should I have to get rid of it! What really bothers me is the local tip has height barriers and we can just get under in the disco but if I wanted to go in my 90 I would need a special permit from the council because it is a hard top and classed as a van........ this also applies if we go in the 2a cos it has a rag top and can therefore become a pick up   Trouble is you are only allowed one special pass so we have to choose one vehicle then only use that one :x

AFAIK my local council is only recysling the waste it can sell on to other people.  That's the bottom line once again, more money to squander on **** we don't want.

our council make us put cardboard in with the greenwaste bin, which the recycling site hate as they then have to sort it out of the greenwaste and send away to get recycled

Why do they not set up recycling plants at prisons :?
That way the prisoners get to sort it all out, they are doing something that they should be, contributing to society and the environment and even the human rights knobs could not argue with that.

Everyone a winner.

What a brilliant idea! The only problem is they would have to be 'paid' more as it could be unhygenic for the poor darlings.
I rang my local council about shredded paper not being allowed in the recycling bin, and was told that it couldn't go in there as it was too difficult to sort out from the other stuff, so I should put it in my compost bin or use it as animal bedding! :?
I would like to get a compost heap, but would not want all the chemicals used to bleach the paper leaking into the soil.
I don't keep livestock, and if I did I would then need tons of shredded paper, which of course I would then need a licence to store and a place to store it in, which I would have to pay rates on.................hang on, I see a pattern forming here! Cheeky, money grabbing, rule making, self motivated, shiny ars*d bureaucrats!

Good Idea I'm sure prisoners would like another route to get their drugs, alcohol, mobiles, porn, etc into the prison

I recycle mine!!!!!

I always put some of that 'junk' mail in the YES envelope that comes with Readers Digest stuff, and other bits and pieces that comes through my door.

Well, I've sent letters etc asking them to stop sending it, but they dont, so as they are kind enough to send me a postage paid envelope, I thought I'd use it!!!!!
