GUESS WHAT ??
« on: November 26, 2006, 18:13:28 »
    5 Series beemers cant swim

Me and the misses were out tonight carrying out a scientific study of a flooded railway bridge, ( oh, ok we might of been playing a tad also)   And as we done our last (as we thought) run through the water a pair of headlamps appeared behind us,   But before i could check/advise the driver of the level the vehicle entered the watery depths-----lights went underwater----lights went out       I must point out the water was about four feet deep and about 40 feet plus long, or to put it another way i have a 3" lifted disco with slightly larger wheels on it and the bow wave was over me bonnet, and yes i did approach it sensibly,    so i shouted to the owner ( a lady) to stay IN the car to try to avoid anymore water entering the vehicle, if that was possible? But no she opened the door and popped out #-o   any how luckly she new the location of the beemers towing eye, and with a few lenghts of recovery rope she was out,( of the water anyhow,)  At this point i usually have a chuckle at landy owners when they open the doors to let some water out     But it was just over the level of the seats(leather off course) she was a member of a recovery company so left the rest to them,  she was well made up with our efforts and wanted our adress to send flowers but we politely refused and just asked her to spread the word that off roaders can be of use,      Just to finish this post off the final qoute from her was   " just thought i would drive through here for a treat for my son who is in the back"       P.S  it was a 56 reg tourer (or was )  Emptied out me wellies and just finished hanging the recovery ropes in the garage to dry, Till the next time it rains any how

Oh dear, but that's the typical BMW owner isn't it.

BTW, who knows what BWM stands for, and I don't mean the nicknames.

Where was this?
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Would have loved to have got a piccy or two, but flawed on 2 counts

    1= no camera
2= its as black as ya hat out there, no street lights for a few miles (total bliss :D )
Did think of popping home and getting the camera, but didnt think she would have liked  that idea, ( the water was kinda chilly to say the least )

I am not taking sides on this one as i used to own a 3 series tourer, (wish i had never sold it) but there is good n bad in all aspects of this world, As it happens she seemed a lovely kinda person, even before we offered to tow her out,

Just got the monthly village mag, and it adresses the issue of the flooded bridge, but wont take any action till next year  :D  ,,  then they will put soak aways in the local fields n see if that cures it  :(     Until then they will drain it out in tankers when ness,  Plenty of more recovery tales to come then  :)

Give us a grid ref and I'll come sit here next time it hacks it down with you see if we cant make something from it.

That said, watched some drown a merc behind the hill not that long ago in Sheepwash

I can relate a similar tale from last Sunday on the approaches to the bridge over the M3 at Winchester.
Both sides of the bridge were flooded and I watched as a tw*t in a Peugeot saloon went into the first flood, sending up a bow wave like a lifeboat launch, which caused him to swerve and nearly scratch the paint on my nice new winch bumper. I gave him some verbal advice, but he then went faster still into the next puddle which was deeper. He got through, but I saw and heard a loud bang as his engine tried to digest the water he had put into it.
Summary justice!

Bavarian Motor Company (roughly)

That's BMC, so it 's german for British Leyland  ,sort of german Leyland.  BMW owners don't like the comparison somehow, eben though the 3 series is now as common as a Vectra.

Thing is I get to spend a lot of time sharing the roads with other peope and I tend to find the most thoughtless drivers are the ones in big flashy cars who seem to think that becasue they have importnat jobs/expensive suits/flash cars that that gives them the right of way.

if I could afford to insure the Range Rover for all risks I'd use that for work, I would honestly.
