looking to get a set of strengthened half shafts for my IIa.
any thoughts on  where to buy them ??

Not a clue.  But I have to ask is why?  The reason why halfshafts break is because they're an easy replaceable component... they're expendable in other words.  It's so that you don't go blowing the gearbox or other expensive parts of the drivetrain.

As Rich mentions... you need to be careful uprating Series 3 shafts... the Series differential isn't the strongest thing in the world, so you have the potential of moving the breakages into the middle of the axle.

just not sure what way to turn.
will be trailing the old motor soon and dont know whether to fit stronger halfshafts or just carry lots of spares.

What engine are you running ?  What tyres ?

You find that you'll be OK on the standard shafts and a couple of spares will be all you need.

engine is a 2.25 petrol with acr power plus parts.
as for tyres at the moment its 205 diamonds

With the acr power plus (head, carb, cam etc) it would be a good idea to upgrade.

Has anyone fitted the Salsbury to the short wheelbase as this would be the obvoius upgrade, I have one on the 2a 109 with 2 1/4 petrol with acr Power Plus and a couple of other bits (100 - 110 bhp depending on how it feels), 265 tyres. I haven't broken a shaft yet but have got spares for when i do (they have been in the garage for about 7 years now).

have been offered a salisbury but dont know what is involved in fitting it .
might just take it and keep it until i find out!

On the 109 it is pretty much a straight swap, only way to find out is to have a look.

You'll need to take an angle grinder to the spring seats on the axle and reweld them on closer together.  You'll also need to to get a custom propshaft, or get your shortened.

With 205R16 tyres, I wouldn't bother to be honest.  Even with an uprated engine, the size you are running will help to keep things under control.

My advice... suck it and see
