Ok guys, just found this while searching for the source of a knocking sound from the back end. Being so close to the spring mount, should I be driving it as it is, & could it have something to do with the knocking?

personally, i would get it sorted asap, as you cant be too careful with a monocoque like the XJ!
this is a typical weakpoint on an XJ!
have you checked the spring bushings for wear? that might be the knocking....

All the springs & bushes are new. Cheers again mate, off to the local garage first thing monday.

They said f**k me thats a big hole! They then welded a patch over the hole from the inside, made a nice job.
