CB Radio's

I am about to buy a new vehicle Cb radio to have permantly in the disco. I currently use a hand held unit with an external power supply and aerial.

I would like a little inspiration as to where it can be mounted (with pictures if possable).

The unit i am looking at is a Midland 48 Plus (so its not the smallest around)

Midlnd 48 Plus - excellent bit of kit, but as you say, not the smallest rig on the planet :lol:

Thanks for the replys, is this the only place that they will fit easily?

I have seen one on top of the dash before, but it was right inveiw for everybody.

Has anybody thought about fitting one elsewhere?

have seen them fitted above the sun visor but think its not a very good idea. also under the seat but have to be carefull with that one if going throught water.and mounted on the lid of the chubby box oh and in the pocket of the door.

Got mine centrally mounted on top of the dash.  The CB Antenna is rather a giveaway anyway and it's the ideal position for use.

Mounted mine above the rear view mirror but if you have a sunroof you carnt fit em there.

Mine is fited on the transmision tunnel as above.

 I have seen a slim line set mounted in the map pocket above the screen. Not really an option with that set though.

 Door pockets not really a good idea. Shock, water, dust, etc.

be carefull if you put it on the dash, unless you use a snatch plate or remove it when not in use. as said its on display but in direct sunlight over a period of time the transducers etc can go caput

Mine is in the map pocket above the winscreen, granted its a lot thinner, but it fits in there nicely.

Why do some have a problem with it there?

I unscrewed the pocket, slotted the unit in then retightened, so its nice and secure with an easy power source.

Which model do you have?  On paper, very few of them fit there, but sounds like they can be persuaded.

What power source, the interior light?

Its a Team MC8 from thunderpole, slots in nicely, although I intend to cut some holes underneath as the sound is a bit garbled at times.

Yes, power from the interior light, works a treat.

Fitted mine in the roof on the panel behind the interior light, small cut in the plastic panel and run the cable down, tapped in the light feed, fitted the external speaker above the rig, my rigs a very small midland, looks trick and out of the way of water and big feet!!!!! will post pc when i get five

Thanks for the replys, i knew there were other places that they would fit.

It looks like it will be on the transmission tunnel (as its a big unit). Perhaps i will fit it on a slide mount so it is easily removable.

My aerial is on the bull bar and is very quick to remove (when i leave the vehicle it gets removed so not to draw attention to it).

I will also have a look at the cbs available to see if there are any small units with the spec i require.

If anybody has any other pictures it would be great to see them.

I have mine fitted to the rear of the cubby box. It's mouted vertically with the controls etc facing upwards. It means you need to turn your head to check the channel etc but it does keep it out of the way of muddy boots in the front footwell. Wasn't too keen on fitting it to the roof area.

I put mine on the shelf in the garage.

Mines on the transmition tunnel like above but on the drivers side as it makes it easier to use the buttons and see the display. Its a Midland 48 plus.

Mine is on the drivers side of the cubby box. Tucked out of the way but handy for use.

Like the sound of the "above the light" instalation though.

Nah... that's where I'm planning for my spotlight switches!

I have mine mounted below the cupholders (300TDi) it sits there well and is reasonably out of sight, but it does make changing into lowbox a real pain in the backside.

I will also have a look at the cbs available to see if there are any small units with the spec i require.

Don't worry about spec, the majority of Mud-Club CB's live on channel 30 and are used over very short range when laning, for which any CB will do.

Got a nice slim MC8 Unit from thunderpole.

Mounted above rear view mirror - power from live feed on light (works with ignition ON or just on the first 'click' of the keys) - just one small hole through the blanking plate.

As for the aerial - SS gutter mount on rear off-side corner. Taken CB cable from CB through headlining and exit O/S/R door (5 dr Disco). There's a small channel just below the roof gutter on 5 door models. Filled this with silicone and then pushed the cable into the recess. Couple of bits of masking tape while it goes off - job done!
