Changing bushes

How big a job would it be for me to replace worn existing bushes with Polybushes (or similar)?  Do I need any specialised equipment?  Would it just be easier/cheaper to let the garage do it?

a 25t press i use  :lol:
however most people burn the rubber bush off then cut the remaining steel sleiveings off afink
i did it the once, not again  :roll:

Take the arms off & take them to local garage.  They should be able to press out old & fit new bushes.  Recommend you change the A-frame ball joint too :shock:

hehe funny you should mention that  :lol:
mine needed changing for months but i didnt want do it cos its a arse  :lol:
last weekend whilst out playing  :roll:
going up a hill, front pas wheel came off ground n stayed off as the lockers just pushing it along nicely uphill
then felt a jerk and stoped going forwards and going backwards  :shock:
as i lowered meself back down here all clunking n banging
got out rear prop slit into ( come out of its sliding joint  :shock: )
ne way removed prop as couldnt b arsed put it back gether was end of the day anyway  :evil:
so backed the rest of the way down and turned round, looked at me rear wheel, it was out of the arch  :shock:
o thats not gud bearing in mind they are simex and tey 11.5 wide  :shock:  thats a fair distance move
so had a look snapped me a frame ball joint  :lol:  :roll:
so had to replace it then
but am sure it broke cuz it needed replacing  :roll:
story over going back to me brew  :lol:

:shock: wow I have never heard of someone snapping an A Frame ball joint.
I took mine off & took it to the local garage.  Ã‚£5 in the tea fund & old joint out , new joint in....easy :(shades):
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

wel i was grinning all day long on monday fixing it at the workshop  :lol:
20 mins and it was all back together again
heat up and press out press new in refit tighten up job done
its very twitchy now tho on the road it was a nice drive before  :(
even on those evil 35 inchers

Buy the real ones, not the cheaper ones like I did from Paddocks, they fit and feel better, but are not cut as well as the official polybush set.
You can burn out the old bushes or use hole cutters to remove the rubber, not as messy, then cut out the outer bush, carefully with a hack saw.
To fit the trailing arm and front radius bushes we used a trolley jack to push the bushes home into the axles, my 90 was on axle stands anyway,
best ones to do are the shocks, good luck getting them fitted..... :lol:

ooo i dont bother with shock bushes, mine eats them with the flex on the old girl  :cry:
as for polys ive got them and ive only got them for ease of fitment if i tare one apart whilst on a comp
but 2BH id rather have OEM bushes they just as gud ifnot better
just is i cant carry  25T press with me everwhere  :roll:

Agree with you on the OEM bushes.  Polys just put extra strain elsewhere...I bent a 10t press trying to get old bushes out...luckily it wasn't my press :lol:
I now have a spare set of f&r arms...change them & take arms to someone else to change bushes.  :(biglaugh):

i smashed a piston in the press yesterday  :oops:
needed to hold the damn thing down so i could take a few measurements applied a wee bit 2 much pressure  :lol:
ill still be discovering bits of it this time next year afink
went pick a cup up to make a brew, wots init  :roll:

Haha....reminds me of a party I had at my house 2 years ago.  Drinks & nibbles (peanuts, crackers etc) laid out...next morning...house is trashed, booze gone, nibbles trodden into carpet, down sofa, in bed etc...2 years later still finding f***ing peanuts in random places :roll:   Top party though :(biglaugh):  :(biglaugh):
Hope it wasn't a piston out of a force?  They used to be a pain in the ar5e for parts

Why all this talk about presses to pull a couple of suspension bushes out.
Get some threaded rod with a couple of nuts to fit the rod.A few washers of different sizes and Fanny's your aunt.  :D

I never used a press even at work.  :P

i tried pushin out my rear radius arm bushes at work usin our 100 tonne press.after narrowly missing flying drifts etc i decided to get the bottles involved an burt the little f00ker out!after removing the outer sleeve the new bush pressed in using a vice!

lesson learnt fire is not just for playing with...it's practical!!!! :wink:

Couldn't figure out how you use this method to get them out so just cut the old ones out. But this method really worked well for putting the new ones in, top tip thanks Mike.

Oh and here is my saying, quite similar to yours

Sorry guys but I've been away for a week.

I use a small fastener company.
Teeside Industrial Fasteners. I was in there the other week and a guy is getting some screwed rod. Someting like 3/4" stuff. He had a few rods in his hand.

I asked him in passing about the rod.
I use it for replacing spring and suspension bushes he told me.

So even in a HGV workshop they still use that method.
