Just to play Devil's Advocate for a second......

Do you really want a *cheap* roll cage ?

If you want it to do what it should be doing, there needs to be a certain amount of cost involved.  You will be looking at at least around 600 quid, and more likely 800-1000

Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear :-(

Got a mate with a modified MkI Escort.
2.1L Pinto, no prob on the insurance, it's modified but they are happy with that, likewise the Type9 5-speed, the lowering kit, the nitrous injection, the 4-linked rear end all ok.
I'm going to put a roll cage in it (for my safety you understand), no sorry sir but you can't do that, it would be classed as a competition car and your policy won't cover you!

Be careful with your modifications and check that you are covered first!

That reminds me of a conversation I had with Firbond or Firebird or someone claiming to be a 'specialist' LR insurer.

I got to the bit about having a roll cage on my LR of the time.....

Them : "Oh no, sir.  We can't insure that"
Me : "Oh !   Why not ?"
Them : "Because the roll cage makes it too great a risk"
Me : "So a piece of safety equipment makes the vehicle too great a risk ?"
Them : "Well, in our experience, vehicle with roll cages are used for racing and as such are more likley to make a claim"
Me : "You are a Land Rover Specialist, right ?"
Them : "Yes"
Me : "So can you tell me how fast you think a Series 3, 2.25 Diesel could be raced ?"
Them "........"

I phoned secure direct after that and got quoted about 25% less than Firewotsit quoted me before they knew I had a cage.   Silly people. :-)
