Thinking of selling the p38
« on: January 07, 2007, 18:56:47 »
I am thinking of selling the P38, I dont use it enough as I am always in the Disco and I am thinking of getting a freelander for the missus to be able to learn to drive in.
So, what do you think its worth?
Its a 1997 4.6hse, it does have an autobiography badge although I dont believe it to be genuine. It does have a full leather console which is something you dont see often.
Full HSE Spec, with lightstone leather interior and Epsom Green paint.
It has 18" Hurricanes, clear light package, Genuine Side Steps and a few other toys.
It has covered 151k miles but has a lot of service history with it inc 2 replacement engines in its time and a gearbox.
I really like this car but I just dont use it enough and parking on my street is horrendous and getting worse so I have to park it in the next street sometimes and I am nervous not being able to keep an eye on it.

Faultwise, It needs a new screen but I dont have windscreen cover on my insurance. so the new owner would have to use thiers as I am not paying £450 for one but the new owner would only have to pay about £50! THe drivers window mechanism needs replacing, it works but clunks when it gets to the top, this is a common fault and replacements are only about £50, the passenger front window doesn't work, I am told this is the motor, again a common fault and replacements are cheap. I have just not got around to replacing it.
So, what do you think its worth?

That mileage is going to work against it so get those minor faults fixed first
I think you would be better trying to sell privately first before resorting to the dreaded ebay - I looked on ebay for months before picking my import and prices were all over the place - anything from £3500 - £6500 for that model/age
If you go the ebay route market it properly with plenty of good photos and a Full description - not just a few words
You want the impression that you cared for/were enthusiastic about the motor to show through if you know what I mean
Best of luck and fix those faults first !
Oh, and if it doesn't sell can I swap those wheels with mine ?
The nice part of living in a small town is that when I don't know what I am doing, someone else does

It really is an unmolested car, the previous owner bought it in 2001 for £25k!
The milage is on the high side but it really drives like a new car, no nasty clunks or whines.

What mileage does the current engine have on it?

I sold my P38 a couple of years ago;  it was an N plate, 115K with a new engine at 100K, immaculate condition, for £9750, but that was with a multi-injection LPG system installed, which would have cost at least £1500 to add in.

I could be tempted to have another, although I think the wife would kill me...

WIthout digging the paperwork out, I would say about 25k ago the engine was fitted, I will have a good look later and see if I can be more accurate.
