I finally got meself a Mac laptop (Powerbook). Great so far, in fact the only time it seems to crash is when the PC it's networked to crashes too...
But... When I initially turned it on and it installed its system software, it played a bit of music I've been trying to locate for ages. It's instrumental and I think it was in the charts this year. Any ideas what it is?
I'd post a recording, but I can't work out how to get it to play again...
It's killing me!
Thanks,
David

Well, I've only been using one for 2 days, so I'm probably not the best person to ask, but FileMaker is the name that keeps coming up as far as I can see. There are some other Mac users lurking here so they may be able to be a bit more helpful.
The tune was Eple by Royksopp, by the way!

Bearing in mind I know nothing of Macs....
If your still having problems networking it with your PC, are you on NTL?
We tried networking my old laptop, with no joy, untill Steve read the NTL small print. It simplay will not let you do it.
He was particulary annoyed as he's checked with the drones in PC World as he'd heard 'rumours' about this but they assured him it was possible.

Not sure about that Vam.. I run a network with PC's and Mac co-existing OK.
I think the NTL stuff basically means that they don't offer any support for the Mac, and that the client software you have to install if you have the modem connected directly to the computer doesn't work on a Mac.

Hmmmm dunno then :?
like I said I know nothing of Macs (I had a compaq Laptop ) and just remember that when Steve tried networking the laptop so I could have broadband internet access, NTL wouldn't let him do.
Just remembered that was the reason we couldn't network

I'm with Zen, and I have a fairly robust home network, so networking in general is not a problem. The issue I had was that my flaming PC kept falling over all the time, which was instrumental in moving to the Mac. Of course, I wanted to migrate lots of files across, so networked the two together, but every time the PC crashed (frequently) it started to upset the Mac a bit. Maybe it was trying to send sparks of death down the cable
Now I've finished messing about with the PC, the Mac is as stable as they come.
It's interesting that the Mac makes everything so very easy - I can see why they're so appealing for beginners, and people like me who are fed up with the hassle.
I've now got to work out what to do with the PC. I have to say, my current preference is to take it out the front and run it over with the Discovery - that'd teach the bloody thing.
