Was on my local news today (south today) and the reporting was bloody diabolical, they were really biased against 4x4's from the outset calling them a scurge on society etc.

I agree with Pete - how about a London to just outside Brighton run and let them see the lost revenue of it all.

I think its...against human rights and therefore cant be legal
If someone ownes a mini cooper will they have to pay more for their parking.. no i dont think so ...but its the same tax as my disco.

A black taxi cab owner, will he/she pay more for parking it at home..no, but it has the worse co2 of all cars on the road.
What if you use your 4x4 for your work i bet you will have to pay ..why because its a 4x4 and therefor a school/corner shop run about.

I get fed up with this "thing" against 4x4s.

What about action against road cyclists (the ones in lyca) they got no resect for other road users and will ride 2 or 3 abrest. The last time i looked at the highway code it said cyclists shoud ride in single file and if i remenber correctley the highway is not for racing on.

Was on the news tonight and the final shot was of a nice big Merc, which at a guess has the same fuel consumption if not worse than most 4x4's
And all those interviewed just gave the stock answers as they have been brianwashed by the idiots that run the country..
We could all just go to brighton and drive around, it's only parking that will cost more, see if they like that one, 2nd gear low ratio....

You know what, Neil?  It's going to get very crowded in NZ.  I know lots of people already there, or in the process of going there.  The only thing that's stopping me is the missus not wanting to leave her mum.

I love my native Yorkshire as much as BTM, but I'm sick to the back teeth of being walked all over.

I'd love to know how 4x4 is classified.  It's the old Impreza vs SJ and X-Trail 2wd vs Cooper S.

I've had this idea about elections.  Remember the film "Brewsters Millions"?  I think the "None of the above" campaign was a step in the right direction.  If a set proportion of residents fail to vote, then the election is declared "no vote" and we have to do it all again.  The politicians might get the message then.

It's going to be a begger to enforce,  and it's going to cost a fortune too, the question is (or perhaps should be) will the additional effort required to legislate, implement and enforce this offset the reduction in carbon (well, the theoretical reduction) that is gained ?

Anyhow, considering that it is all relatively little amounts we're talking about here who really cares?   Most of us I would think would rather avoid living in an inner city area, specifically one with on road parking..  oh look, another reason to not move to brighton :)

Yes but the council in question are the same one that make the parking signs as ambiguous as possible, then ticket you because you were parked on the wronmg side of the road during the waxing of the moon on the 4th tuesday of the month.

Two £60 fines because of their stupid signs :( Parking is impossible round that way and this is just another way of reducing the number of cars they have to worry about.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

As I say these appear to be inner city residential parking passes ...  so the questions are ...

1) do the residential parking permits currently have vehicle specific data on them ?  such as the registration of the vehicle in question.  If so, how do you cope with people changing cars, or loaning the permit to someone who is staying at their house whilst they are on holiday.

2) furnished with #1, you'll have to employ some poor schmuck to trawl though the database of vehicles with the DVLA to ascertain CO2 emissions for each and every parking permit application.

3) alternative to #2 you could ask for this data on the application form, however this is rather open to abuse.

4) Are parking officers really going to be reading registration plates to see if they tie up with the one in the windscreen ?

Or, shall we go down the patented "darranoid" view of this, and the vehicle tracking charges ?

The scheme will be investigated, at great cost to the tax payer with frequent tabloid headlines about the potential impact (financially) to the motorist.  These costs will equate to say a 50% rise on what you effectively pay at present,  some people will be better off, but the vast majority will be sufficiently narked to the tune of a shed load of cash.

The scheme will then be abandoned as it has proven to be "too costly" to implement, or "technologically unachievable in the current climate", and therefor the institution responsible will completely back down on the potential 50% rise in fees, and instead suggest a much simpler policy of merely increasing road tax / fuel duty, which only costs your average punter say 15% more than they're paying now.

Overjoyed at being spared a 50% price hike in favour of a 15% price hike, the population throws a spontaneous street party whilst the institution hands knighthoods and peerages to all involved and then randomly invades somewhere with the word "stan" in the name...

Yes they do. You have to change the permit and each resident is allocated so many books of 5 visitor passes which you have to pay for. I think you cant buy more than 30 passes per 12 month period IIRC. Its a trully silly system. Each area of residents parking in Hove typically then has about 10 parking spaces thatre are payment meters on first coime first served and additional spaces which become residents only after 6pm through to 9am. The times vary too between areas. Incidentally its privately run and enforced.

They will have no problem doing this, as it is they check your veichle details. My first application failed because the Audi was still registered in Southampton. i had to re-register the car to get a permit.

See abopve they do ask and then verify it with the DVLA. Heafty fine if you deliberately try and subvert it. I had to produce the V5 and a bill for Goldstone Villas before they would be convinced and ignore the DVLA database.

Beleive it or not, they do. The enforcement of parking in Brighton and hove beggars beleife. The first ticket I got was because I was 3" out of a bay and into a residents only space. The second because I was parked in a pay for space with a permit.

Sadly the parking enforcem, ent and rules in that area are sufficiently draconian as it is so that enforcing this wouldnt actually be any harder than what they already do.  Although it wouldnt apply to non residents. Its another example of bandwagon jumping at its finest.

Well then it's 8 nuts and bolts isn't it? then you have a nice hefty piece of steel pipe to t**t the parking hitler with don't you?

What's the phrase? emission not transmission.,

Buy a series 3.

Hell buy a series 2, if it's road tax exempt then surely it follows that it's parking tax exempt..

As far as I'm concerned if it's public road, which it is, it belong to the public.  If yoiu liv ein that town then it's your public road, and your right to park on it.

Politicians in tis country are power-mad, they have all forgottne they work for us, they should have to survive a vote of no confidence before they are allowed to return to power.  Crikey, king tony would be f***** then :?
