I would be curious to know what Disco 3 model they used.  The base model uses coil springs and has very little articulation.  :?

I got this also through the post earlier last week, straight in the bin as I have no interest in the way that Jeep word their brochure full of gloat.  "We didn't need to say that the Jeep is better than Land Rover's Discovery 3, as the 4x4 Magazine said so for us.".  :x

Im not too narrow minded to know there are some very good 4x4's out there but come on!! Do they think we're all stupid? Maybe im missinformed but since when have they used a jeep grand cherokee for the camel trophy?

Its all marketing hype at the end of the day...crysler probably paid them a sh#t load!

Yep should of added that. but then off road i think a ETC equiped defender would be better on approach, departure and ramp breakover angles?

Yup, thats what must have happened!...

But then so must have Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi...

Guess thats what happens when you are OWNED by a company several BILLION in the red.

No money left to bribe journalists. THATS why you end up in 6TH PLACE. Must be the ONLY reason, right?

Aston Martin has been dumped, next is Jaguar. Who the he!! is going to buy your sorry a££ed "pride of the empire" next?

Maybe one of the Jap companies? The ones above you on the list.

Maybe even Chrysler. Bring the idiot offspring back to its roots.

Maybe Santana can use some of that military contract money its going to end up getting to bail you out?

Talk about your sore losers.

If that was also directed towards myself, then I suggest you read my post again.  It was clear that it was the wording and gloating that I disliked.

Furthermore, alternative vehicles like the Toyota Hilux have crossed my mind several times in recent months.  But for now I'm sticking with the old Land Rover.

If your response was not aimed at me as well then I apologise in advance.

:?  :?  :?

Chapel Gate, Derbyshire = a very tough steep lane.

My Vitara = up in one go on first attempt.

Jeep Cherokee = 3 attempts then gave up.

Now don't get me wrong, the Jeep is a very nice & capable motor but best 4x4 in the world - I don't think so

Don't get me wrong. I like LR's. I used to drive lightweights and early RR's when i was younger. LIke any other 4x4 they are very capable in the right hands.

However i have a huge problem with LRO's. In 12 years of off-roading here and in the US i have NEVER met a more close minded group of vehicle owners as LR owners. The lengths i have seen them go to to remain separate from any other brand has been incredible. Every other marque i've known is happy to mix with 'others', but not LRO's (in my experience).

I read it. You didn't like the way Jeep "gloated" over the award. Get over it. If LR had won, you'd all be on here "gloating" your a$$e$ off. If LR had won (as it has done in the past, both here AND IN THE US), it wouldn't bother me a bit. It wasn't just directed at you, but all the other whingers in this thread. Crying because you didn't automatically win just because its a LR.

BTW, I got the same envelope. In it (not that you read it), it had the offer to test drive a Jeep Commander for 48 hours.

In other words i'd get to drive a brand new free jeep for 24 hours. Whoopee for me right?

I wouldn't take it. Why? I don't like the Commander. If i had to buy a 7 seater SUV, i'd get a Chevy Tahoe or Land Cruiser. Big on the inside as well as the outside. Unlike the Commander. And off-road, a Land Cruiser would spank a Commander every time.  Would you catch me crying becuse something perfoms better than 'my brand'? No.

But having a thread like this where its 'inconceivable' that anything could beat a LR just because its a LR.

Sad.

That is what I've been noticing more and more often.  That's why I'm being tempted more and more to go with a Japanese vehicle of some sort, as I get a comfortable vehicle that's also reliable (well built too!) and also very capable by going that way.

Although this again felt somewhat directed towards me and others here, I have to say I'm not too fussed about who wins what.  I just didn't like the wording, simple as that.

I too saw that, and the same as when I got the Nissan Nivara (spelt right?) advert brochure through the post, that too had it, as did the LR for the Disco 3.  Each one I would of happily had a test drive of.  I'm always curious to see what each manufacturer can come up with, whether it be gimmicky or useful.
:D

I'm not at all surprised that the MOD is going with Santana's PS10 either.  I personally think it's a far better choice than the poorly built (by today's standards) vehicles that now come out from Solihull with the Defender badge.

Although can I make one suggestion?  Your posts do come across as slightly aggressive.  It may be worth toning down parts of the post a little, or express your feelings in a slightly more diplomatic form. ;)

OK, i like you!

Aggressive? Probably. But my LRO button is easily pushed. Just like the old empire, most LRO's think they still rule the world, and everything else is just the 'fuzzywuzzy's', needing to be lorded over and kept apart.

I've driven the Commander, Grand Cherokee, and Liberty last year at a promo day. I liked the GC, couldn't care about the Commander, and i own a '79 Cherokee and a '94 Cherokee. I can't call the 'new' one a Cherokee. Its just not right.

What Jap 4x4 would you be looking at?

I wonder who on here voted, we are offroaders and i think a good selection of the general public. So who voted who even heard it was being voted on. I bet none
Some people buy a car and don't drive other makes so they stick with what they know nothing wrong with that, but they don't know what there missing.

If you asked serious off-roaders which would be the best car I'd reckon they'd say Toyota Land Cruisers....

Unless they were LROs of course

Given that both makes are some of the most unreliable, if I had to cross the Sahara I would take the Jeep over a Disco 3, I know the Jeep has its fair share of gizmo's but I wouldn't bet my life on Landrover electrics
Anyway the disco is fugly

I was just having a look at the Santana website - anyone know much about them? I had a quick sit in the pickup version at a country show last year and was pretty nice - like a defender in many ways (as you would expect) but more room and better thought out.

Given I saw a Modded Disco 3? recently and it did look rather tasty I'd just like to remind some blue oval enthusiasts which marque came first....(was going to grab coat but ....) without Jeeps there wouldn't be Landys..fact

Have no issue with other makes, horses for courses etc but give Jeeps respect we started the fun and we'll carry it on
