It's possible, but requires a massive amount of work.  If you want a V8 Series, my advice is to get the conversion parts to mate the V8 up to the existing gearbox.

Would the old box be able to take that? Forgive me, ive never attempted an engine conversion before. Just want to stick a v8 in it some how. cheers.

Only if you have a heavy right foot!  As long as you're not flooring it, and have some mechanical sympathy you should be okay as peak torque isn't low down like on a TDi.

v8 for the "power", but drive it like a granny ;) sounds like a GREAT result from a load of effort! :D

V8's deserve the right box, why drive it worrying that you shred the teeth all the time??? where's the fun in that?  :?

Well, you've got axle halfshafts to also worry about then too.  The drivetrain wasn't intended for having 150bhp and 230lb/ft torque thrown at it time after time.

series 2 boxes will have very little with problems V8, know a few kicking around and non of them girly right feet in control. but if you fit the series 3 box with full syncro you will strip the syncro in no time at all

oh and the conv plates come up on ebay for about £20-40

Nothing wrong with the series box and even taking it easy you'll still leave the oil burning boingy stoves wondering why a ratty old heap has bombed past them...
