Am I missing something obvious?

Just adjusted the selector for the transfer box, and started putting everything back together. Now maybe I'm being stupid and there's something obvious staring me in the face that I'm not seeing, but how do I reconnect the handbrake cable? Where the pin was holding it in place when I removed it, I now can't get it in because of the mechanism for the button being in the way.
Speedy hints would be appreciated as my car is in bits out in the dark ;)
Cheers
Matt

Hmm, managed that bit, now the ratchet mechanism doesn't want to work. Pull the handbrake up, no ratchet, press the button in and release handbrake, and the button remains depressed.

Guess I'll just have to try removing the cable again and see what I can do with it. Can't get the ratchet working properly, used some WD40 on it to see if that eases it up, and it's not doing owt :/

Done! Found a thread over on the lr4x4 forums that mentioned the rod inside the handle getting bent and therefore sticking. Pulled the button out, straightened it somewhat, and hey presto, worky worky!

Been there and done that mate . . . . if you ever do it again grip the button with a pair of pliers and turn it a little at a time, eventually it usually finds a position where it will work. Usually saves stripping the whole lot out again.
I take you had all the console off to do the job? There is hardly enough room to put it all back together without pulling the lever up to too far to get the console back on and thats when the rachet pawl inverts . . . .

Yup, console off. Even more fun was trying to wrestle the console out/back into the cab, due to the fact I've got a commercial, with the dog guard/bulkhead right behind the front seats. Not much room to manouvre it about!
Still, at least I know how to do it, in case I ever have to go through it all again!
