I'm not going to popular for saying this, but....

a) The petition is a nice plan, but
b) it's spelt RUPP, not RUP
c) Not many byways were lost under NERC - RUPPs yes, but not byways - there is a significant legal difference.
d) 'greenlanes' is not a recognised legal term
e) 'thousands of miles' - is he sure?
f) it's a bit late now.

Not wishing to put a downer on the parade, but if you want government to to take you seriously, the facts put foward need to be accurate otherwise the petition is meaningless.

It is a nice plan, though, and hopefully more people will sign.

Cheers

I'm not saying that it's a waste of time signing it but I reckon you'd be better off petitioning or chatting to your local county highways officer about the lack of recreational lanes in your area, and see what he come up with.

I think in a lot of cases you'll be surprised

and i would agree that local support and bridge building is a good thing but if we take the attitude that it's not going to be worth 5 mins to fill in a form then they have already one and you best dig out the maps of France and the rest of the EU as that will be the only place you can go on the brown / green stuff.
