New Boots Fitted To Disco
« on: February 09, 2007, 18:40:32 »
Just fitted a set of 265/75/16 BFG MT to the Disco

Looks AWEsome.

Set off in a straight line - Great

Turned the wheel - BUMP, GRIND, UGH   :(

Looks like I am going to have to down size.

Anyone got a set of 245/70/16 BFG MT they want to swap?

Oh Well!!  You live and learn (Expensive though)

Sounds like you need to adjust the steering lockstops to stop them hitting the hockey sticks.

Baz has got 265/70s i think and he got 1 inch spacers on the springs for somethign like £40 from wizard. could be wrong about the price, but its not that much. dont get rid of them, he bigger the better!

Not found any probs with the steering due to the new rims - Modulars (30mm Offset)

Spoke to the experts- They reckon that once off road any articulation would basically remodel the body work.

They suggested going to 245/70/16 max and even then to consider the possibility of a 2" lift.

I have friends running those on their range rovers etc.

Now you have bought them you should (or i would) persaveer and get them to fit.

2" lift kit, trim the front plastic from the bumper, do a camel cut on the rear arch (loads of info on here) and then adjust your steering stops and i bet you will cut about 75% of the rubbing!

Unfortunatyly from my experience i would say you will have to do most of this even if you fitted 245-75R16 and other than that you are probably better sticking with original size (or 235-70).

Is there no chance you can take them back.

Feel sorry for you but do the above and you will be lots better.

If after all that they are still bad then you will have to start cutting back the arches and fitting flexible overhangs like they have on the defender.

I have 265/70 Machos on mine...........  got 2inch spacers on the rear springs, and did a mild camel cut.  Haven't put a lift on the front yet, and the wheels grind the radius arms on lock............  but they don't foul the body on articulation!

I think its the modular rims that are causing you issues.

Taz,

What size are those Modulars, and what is the offsett...... i've got a set of 285 75 16's in the garage waiting to be fitted to rims, but i can't get what i want.... i need wide wheels, with a negative offset, i do trialing, and i can't use spacers..... so i need to wheels to be further out to start with, your's look like the most 'sticky outy' ones i've seen.....
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

My rims are 7x16 modulars (Without fake cap heads round rim)

The measurement from the outside edge of the rim to the back of the centre flange is 100mm

Will post a close up piccy later.

Hope this helps

Martin

I ended up getting a set of Modulars (Offset Dim = 100m from rim edge to back of centre flange - giving approx 30mm offset)   :D

The Tyres are 235/70/16 Insa Turbo Sahara from Paddocks

They look spot on especially with the modulars - makes them look wider than they are.   8)

I have done NO Mods to the Disco - It is totally standard (Apart from diff and steering guards).
The lock has not been affected and I think I could get a better turning circle than with the alloys.

I am only looking at doing a few play days and the odd TYRO / RTV and Green Laning
so these should do the job spot on without breaking the bank.

sounds good, exactly what im after, as i too "dont want to spend loads" just the protection ,tyres etc...looks pretty well,i think someone has had oversized my disco before as it has a crease on the o/s/r rear quarter behind the wheel which im going to have to cover with chequer plate.

hopefully i can get my set this week !!
