hesitaion at 3000 revs on v8
« on: February 11, 2007, 16:52:45 »
hello, ive got a problem when i accelerate . if i put my foot to the floor i seem to get to around 3000rpm then the disco hesitates and wont go any faster even if i drop a gear. if i take my foot off the throttle then put it back down slowley it works fine again. this does not happen every time but happens regularly, just had a service done so its had new plugs so its not that, tried unplugging the airflow meter to see if that made a difference but if anything it was slightly worse, hesitating at lower speeds.have replaced coil pack and leads and crank sensor

Hesitates under hard acceleration?

Does it feel like it's trying to miss-fire at all when it happens?

Intrigued.

Ah. It could be hydraulic pump-up on the lifters. If it is, the cure is simple - change the oil for a good semi-synthetic. We had it on our 3.9 and changing the oil cured it. We'd been through the entire electrics trying to chase our problem down.

It's a more common problem than people realise (oil is one of the most important components in the engine). Not saying this will cure your woes, but it worked for us.

Has the motor get many miles on it?

HTH

I can recomend that Lucas oil, I use it in mine and I can assure you it pulls like a train at 5,500 rpm.

I use 20w/50 in mine, the V8 likes thick oil as it doesn't move it that fast.  Later big-bearing cross-bolted V8s can take it much thinnner.
