TOO BIG TOO FIT??????
« on: November 07, 2004, 01:54:55 »
Was having a chat with a good friend of mine today, Hes a tree surgeon, and is in the market for a defender 110 single cab pick up. However he went to Liveridge 4x4 and tryed one  only to find that he cant sit comfortably in a defender cos he is 6' 7" and the seat dont go back enough?

Is there a way round this????

He said that the ones that have the cab with rounded backs give more room but he hasnt found one yet???

Sorry to bore with such a long question but he is really confused and doesn't want to lower his expectations and have a Hiace!!(his words not mine)

Not sure there is I'm afraid.  The truck cab pretty much limits how much leg room you have.   He could go for a double cab, but then of course he will loose cargo room and they are mucho-money.

He could do worse than the Toyota, or for a double cab, the Mitsubishi L200 is well worth a look.

Or he could think of a Tata Loadbeta http://www.car-reports.co.uk/4x4/story12.htm
Cheap n cheerfull but with solid engineering (peugot engine and BMW gearbox). My bro in law uses one for his landscape gardening business and he swears by it. The best thing is the price mind, a grade A used model will go for about £2.5K (according to my BiL). There is a crew cab version on ebay at the moment.

Why not buy a trailer, I used to be in the same trade and found the trailer a real plus

He could try a hardtop 90 and chop the bulk head out. and then use those seat runners that go back alot further than standard. There was a guy at Billing selling the kit. MUD UK or something. I brought the runners (I'm 6ft 3). Then try a smaller sterring wheel.

Hmm, as far as I know the extended truck cab is sold mainly into Australia. It adds about 12 -14" behind the seats. I don't know if its a Land Rovers Special Vehicles job, or something our Antipodean cousins do for themselves.

Good luck with the search

Cheers

I'm surprised that he cant get comfy in the truck cab, I'm 6ft 6 and dont have a problem once I have settled in. Granted its a bit cosy but no worse than small cars, depends what your used to i spose  :)
