Watch yer Back
« on: February 16, 2007, 10:14:41 »
after nearly 3 weeks of being of sick the mindless sanity of day time  is getting to me.

I went to work on the 27th of January i got out of chair walked 2 steps felt a twinge in the lower part of my back and within the hour my back had locked and the a trip to bedford south wing in an ambulance a cocktail of drugs and morphine finaly eased it.

I have now been signed off work for a month under review, due to see phsyoterrorist's and other dr's just to try and get to the bottom of it.

If i had injured my back doing my martial arts, off roading, St John or doing some work on the landie i could live with it but i got out of chair.

so please be careful and watch your backs because it's BL###y painful and resting in front of the TV realy does your brain in.

I sneezed and did mine in :(

One sneeze and two months of mysery.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I did the same. Sneezed while driving, back just caused me agony, had to pull over on the m25 as just turning the wheel hurt like hell! Still hurts now 3 years on and I am scared of sneezing!

Did mine the first time jumping of a 2ft wall!

Next time was lifting a school bag into the boot of my car!

Still have days where it seizes and I'm walking round like a pregnant duck.
Sometimes you need to get away from the crowd, the only way to do that, is to get a little mud on the tyres.

God are all knackered or what!

I have the odd pain in my back... did it changing the wheel on my car

Now I don't take any chances with it.

Slipped disc, Old Joe?

My old girl sat down at breakfast a few years back, looked at me like this   and turned white. Her disc had slipped out.

Feel sorry for yer mate.

I'm currently 2 1/2 weeks into a 7 weeks of not being able to work or drive.
After helping a mate break an old piano up the main section containing the iron frame to hold the strings and the wood frame to support that (it's an old upright) Fell over and landed on my left foot and fractured my big toe in two places. (no i wasn't wearing steel toe caps) But i flipping wish i did now!

So yes i agree daytime tele is incredibly boring.

Over many years of observation I have noticed that nothing heavy ever falls on your foot whilst wearing steel toe caps.

The one day you leave them off is the day that the heaviest object in the area takes the opportunity to crush your toes

Last felt 'the twinge' pushing a Ford Ka out of a snowy ditch last week. I would (nay should) have used the Hilux to drag it out but was talked into pushing it....

Moral- if there's a machine to do the job always use it!

It's not worth taking the chance guys.

Having had a long standing neck injury since the eighties... I can't recomend the services of a good chiropractor strongly enough.

They specialise in the way the bones, muscles and tendons join, work and fail. Dependant of course on the problem, they can often carry out an adjustment to provide an instant fix or at least drastically improve comfort, with ongoing visits to gradually improve.

There is little hope of getting access in a timely manner through the NHS however, mine charges £40 for an initial consultation (mine was nearly an hour... when was the last time you got that length of interest from the NHS) and subsequent appointments are £27.

If anyone is local and wants the details of mine... gimme a shout.

Just after posting my reply above earlier today I went out in the P38. I have not used it for about 2 weeks so the bloody battery was flat, no problem, got the jump leads on the disco and started the RR. Left it running for about 10 mins outside the house nd then drove to Tesco for some petrol.
Put petrol in, turn key and CLICK!!! Went in the shop and asked if they had jump leads, yes they did and passed them to me. I asked the guy next to me if he would mind jumping me and he obliged. Just about to connect them up and a woman tesco employee came running across the forecourt waving her arms. TOld us that if we connected that up the whole place was gonna blow!!!!!!
So  asked her was she expected me to do, I cant bump start it as its an auto and I cant push it as its too heavy. She said that she would get some people to help push. Well, guess what I did whilst pushing!!!!!!!
   Cant bloody move now!

Wifey phones NHS direct and they were sure I was having a heart attack LOL, appaarently I was getting a bit arsey with them, anyway ambulance turns up and they stick me on a drip with something similar to morphine, a minute later I could have danced out of my house, bloody great stuff  :D

I have an alternative veiw on this.
I first did my back bad whilst off roading in comp. safaris, pulled away the muscle from my upper spine...I had a couple of massages, stopped taking the anti-inflammatories because of the side effects.
I picked up a couple of hundred pounds of dead meat in a straight lift, ripped the large muscle at the bottom of my back, laid on a board for a couple of days.
I now have knots of pain in my back at certain times, I just tell myself that I am enjoying it, relax and get on with things.
I may be a bit weird and all that but, if you tell yourself that you are enjoying it, it seems to go away. :?

I've hurt my back only a few times; each time when carrying something and twisting at the waist at the same time - like opening a door with your foot whilst carrying.

Having heard stories like these in the past I make a point of never lifting anything heavy in the interests of back longevity.

Never done owt major, just given myself aches for a few days from trying to be macho and carrying a generator across the building site on my own, simply because the rather attractive hairdresser was visiting some of the locals!

And as for daytime TV, how many programs can they make about selling crap out of your attic/cellar/garage?

I personally find The Jeremy Kyle show to be the most amusing thing on daytime TV. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of this type of programme, but it just cracks me up how day after day these idiots SIGN UP to go on there. Gives me a few good chuckles when there's nowt on in work.

If the lifting of a heavy item in front of an attractive girl looks to be the right course of action, I think of myself with a permanent bad back and having to spend the rest of my life walking around like Max Wall!
