I've put a 200 TDI in my 1986 CSW, took out a V8.  I cannot believe how noisy it is, is this normal and any advise how to make it more bareable to drive?

The general engine noise, do 30 in 3rd - it's loud, do 50 in 4th it's louder and so on.  Started putting stick on sound insulation on bulkhead and on inside of bonnet, now it seems to send the noise via vibration up the steering column or is it that I got used to the V8 being so quiet.
