I was listening to the prelim report on the train crash earlier, and before they said what had happened i knew the answer, as soon as they mentioned points i though back to potters bar, which i worked extensively on a reconstruction of (hence saw a lot of non public info).
Sure enough almost identical to the PB crash the nuts had come off the stretcher bar causing the points to fail when the train went over them.
What i dont get is they know what caused the crash 2/3 years ago yet have done NOTHING to rectify the problem :roll:
Bloody appauling state of affairs, people's heads should roll over this.

The problem is 99% of the time the peoples heads that roll are not the heads that should be rolling.
The chairman of the company, whose head is normally the first, is not necessary the one that should face the chop.
It's happened before and the guy who can't be hassled to do his job properly is still on the books :roll:

I was stood on Derby station this evening waiting to travel back up to Sheffield, and the train was delayed for 50 minutes.
The reason? Points failure west of Burton on Trent...
Just a co-incidence, or do they know which points haven't been checked for a while 8-[
And I just bought my season ticket this morning for the next month :shock:

I can't understand how the journalists are calling for resignations, but does the chairman of Boeing get called to resign every time a plane crashes due to mechanical problems?
Travelling by train is still the safest way to travel. Think how many road accidents there are every day... and there's a train accident once in a few years.

Thing about these train accidents is they know the cause, they have done for years and yet have taken no action to rectify the problem.
Its not poor maintenance, although this is a factor, its the double locking nuts that come undone on the stretcher bat which holds the tracks the correct distance apart at the points system, they come off due to vibration. The solution is wire the nuts or use nylocks or similar - have ANY rail networks implemented a system to prevent the nuts coming off....NO!
