Swing away spare carrier
« on: March 15, 2007, 21:05:25 »
I have picked up one of the above made by wva.holdings (same as the scrapiron one). Dose anyone have any pictures of the way it mounts? I need pics of the top, bottom and door mounts inside and out side please.

Paul,

I've got one of these carriers to fit on the 110...........it's still in the garage at the mo, one of those 'things to do' !!

Anyhow, as you'll have found out - they don't send fitting instructions with the carrier, and it's not as easy as just bolting the thing to the ar4e-end of the truck. I've collected a few pics, they are in my gallery:

http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Jimbo/gallery/SpareWheelCarrier

One thing I have discovered, is that if you have NAS spec rear lights fitted, fitting the carrier is going to be a right PITA, as depending on exactly where the NAS lamps sit, they may be in the way of the carrier mounts.

Somewhere in the garage I have a drawing from WVA that shows the fitting process - if I can find it, I can post you a copy...any use ?

Paul,

You will probably have to drill out one of the rivets that holds the corner capping on - looking at the back, off side of the vehicle, at the join between the tub and the side/rear panels (where the top hinge of the carrier goes) you will see three rivets in a line '\' shaped. You need to drill out the middle rivet, and enlarge the hole to take the fixing bolt.

When I did a 'dry run' on my damaged rear tub, I found this the worst part of the install - on the new tub I'll leave drilling this rivet until last, in case I don't need to !

Really ? - the instructions I've got clearly show (and say) that you have to drill the rivet right out. I'll have a look at your pics now - guess I should have done that before posting

Well Jim, the instruction could be right and I have mine in the wrong place? But its on and works ok. But looking at the pictures on the one web site it looks about right. I started off by just removing the 2 boltes from the cross member, putting the first mount there. Then worked round. Top mount next, door mount last.

Weird !, I'll have another look when I get the 110 back from 'the shop' (aka, mates garage !). One big prob I have is that I've already chopped the rear end to take NAS lamps, and the indicator and fog get in the way of the carrier mounts........might take the porta-power to the carrier and re-design it slightly
