I currently have a 'm' 300tdi disco , and i like it very much , but for me the defender 90 is more pleasing to me and wish i had bought one first,

could i have a few opinions from defender owners on towing weights, seating and etc.... we have 3 children so seating would be important,

and what the chance of swapping with cash for one

buy a defender. fit seats in the back, job sorted. towing wise, they'll pull the same as a discovery... although i'd feel more confident towing with a defender, but ours is a 110. bit more stable

if i had the choice between the two (which we did.. obviously) i'd buy a defender every time. theres some real nice discovery's out there, but they're not for me.

stuck driving my mothers at the moment if we need to go out as we have work in the pipeline for the 110 so its off the road...  i just dont like driving the disco.

some do, some dont... just depends what someone's wanted or used it for really. if you want them you can fit them... .some have proper side facing seats in the rear rather than benches........ its all easy work anyway if you do or dont want them

your talking me into faster than i wanted,     mmm thinking of putting 12 months mot on the disco and putting it up for swap with cash , before i start doing any mods on it,

will it tow the same weight as the disco ,our c/van is 1500kgs

you know its a good idea ;) it will tow the same, although in theory it should be happier towing it and in reality tow more, as defenders are usually lower geared..... either way, it will laugh at 1500kg

Well sorry to be the odd one out here but i have both and i like the disco better. How these two are set up the disco is much better off road too.
Now dont get me wrong here the 90 is brill and i love it, Just like the disco more
Much more comfort in the disco but if it was for winch challange then the 90 but set up different,, Ie softer more travel on the springs.

i know where your 'e coming from Dave, the 90/110's are more eye pleasing for me for some reason,
for ride comfort i'd really have to go in a defender and see for myself,

ive heard that seating is tighter in the front, im not saying im a big lad, but im a tall 'en and like my space,

as above, must try before i buy

Same here i love the boxy shape of the 90/110.
The biggest smile is from the series 3 but i could not live with it every day.

im much more comfortable in the 110 to be honest... i find i have to have the seat right back in the discovery cos the steering wheel gets in the road.

to be honest i much prefer the ride in the 110 too... i find it much more predictable although that said, i reckon the discovery has had [!Expletive Deleted!] coils fitted on it... needs to go back to alldrive, what you reckon dave? :D

ive noticed in my disco , the seat doesnt go back enough for me and sometimes can be uncomfortable, not like swmbo's car where im practically sat in the rear

it might be just cos im awkward... although like keri just said (to me in person this is) for passengers and most people in general the discovery does have more "room"

Well a standard 90/110 will be better than a standard disco offroad but if you are modding them up, it the kit you choose that make the motor.
As you say you are tall not good in a defender or a disco. So as you say try one or two out first at the end of the day it all personal choice  .
Good look with that choice.

yep i'd deff get a standard one then , buy the stuff as i go along as thats the most fun !!

i think best thing to do is go and test drive a few at some garages, and see for myself,

do they come in tdi and standard diesel?

3.5 V8, 2.5NA, 2.5TD (generally avoid this one if poss), 200tdi, 300tdi, td5

those are the usuals :) you often find them fitted with others though, mazda turbo's and the likes

had a 110 - went mad for 1 - then after about 6 weeks my knees cried 'enough' you can alter the seating position - but then sacrifice rear room.. i am now back with a discovery, and my knee doesnt ache 1/2 as much (have the start of arthritis) i drive about 75000 miles a year in my hgv - which isnt as bad as it seems as I have room to stretch my leg - but in the 110 it was stuck in 1 position..

There again I am totaly the opposite. I can drive a defender all day (and have done) whilst I have yet to find another car where I can drive for more than an hour.
Drove an astra I had once for 2 hours and couldnt get out of the car when we stopped   (well, I crawled out as it happens)
I have driven my 90 from dudley to Carlisle with no stops (200 miles) and in the summer I drove our 110 450 miles through france in one day. In both cases no cramp or sore bum.

I'm 6ft 2 and have no problem getting comfy in the Disco . The driving position feels very trucklike but thats ok.
Tried a couple of 90's and 110's etc and found the driving position terrible !

The Defender 90 is the dogs do das but after 60 miles my left leg would start to loose feeling,i had my 90 knicked before christmas but am looking to get another shortly, forget swaping the disco, you will need to stump up serious cash for a nice 300tdi 90 which is the best option in my opinion.
