I have just had a scary experience.
I am going to a meet on Cannock Chase to-morrow, organised by Bill.
To-night I filled my Range up with juice, right to the brim.
I got home after travelling 2 miles, with my wife and little 'un saying " We can smell petrol ".
O.K., grab the torch and have a look.
All I can say is that there was a river of petrol flowing out of the tank.
A burst kitchen pipe had nothing on this - it was coming out like a shower head.
The fire brigade came to mind, as did the kitchen bowl to catch all my hard earned flowing away before my eyes.
As I still had my work gear on, I crawled under the motor for a closer look.
The problem ? - the sender unit seal.
I had fitted a new sender unit about 6 months ago, but owning a motor that only does 15 m.p.g. on a good day, had never really found the time to put 50 quids worth of juice in it
When I fitted the sender, I used a new rubber seal and made sure it was locked in place.
The problem was that the sealing ring had worked loose.
A few firm taps with a hammer and a screwdriver ( wrapped in a T towel to avoid sparks! ) did the trick.
20 bowls of boiling water + washing up liquid have taken care of the fuel,
the bad news is Torvill + Dean will be skating down my road in the morning :D
So take heed everyone, if you fit a new sender and you don't normally feel flush at the filling station, check your seal.
Not a nice experience :!:
Cheers,
SPIKEY.
