Its all very well but

ncreasing road tax for 4x4's is not the answer. Most 4x4's are shorter than most road cars so take up less room on the road and have better CO2 and mpg stats than most 2 litre plus cars. Why penalise us, why listen to groups of individuals who basicaly hate 4x4 users.

4x4 road tax has not been increased.  High CO2 producing cars has been increased.  In order to fit the top band (£300 this year and £400 next year) your car needs to have been registered this month I think so brand new.  If I could afford a £60k car, £300 road tax wouldnt stop me!  I would be prepared to guess that only a small number of the cars in this tax bracket are 4x4.  The rest will be jags, ferraris etc etc  As far as I am aware the disco 3 tdv6 wouldnt fit that group, just the petrol range rovers.    Post 2001 cars are in several bands based on their emmisions, the lower ones are taxed less than the high ones.  Small 4x4s will probabaly be cheaper to tax than big family saloons.  Before 2001 its two groups, upto and above 1.6.  That means a v8 range rover registered before 2001 costs the same to tax as a 1.6 escort.

Its the damn media that keep telling everyone its "4x4 tax".

Sorry, rant over.

Oh, and for the record I think getting the goverment running round in discos crammed full of people is a great idea.  I would love to see Mr B liar and Gordon brown in the dickie seats! :D

Tax has nothign to do with the fact that 4 wheels are driven instead of 2.  It seems the person who wrote that petition doesnt understand the new road tax.
