what do you sugest i am looking at spending £300-£400 on a laptop next year april

would you go with a toughbook or a Laptop with DVD

I'd look at the toughbook first Tony. You're welcome to have a look at it running. It's no good for day to day stuff but works well enough with a GPS and mapping software.

I was thinking of an ipaq linked to a larger l.c.d screen for a clearer veiw?

:D Ive just sent my Garmin 111 back, for repair. The screen was cracked and doesnt work anymore. Apparently the Garmin 111 is now discontinued put parts and software are still available from Garmin. Cost of repair? dont know yet waiting to hear from them.......

The 27 looks interesting Tony.
Kev, the hard drives are standard drives but cased in gel to take some of the shock out.
I'm considering a standard motherboard with everything built in. So that there's no daughter boards to vibrate loose. Along with a Gig of ram and the operating system on a DVD disk. Then load it all into ram and run with no DVD in the drive. So there' shouldn't be a deal to get damaged while green laning or pay and play stuff.
