lift kit and tyre advice

got a new toy, just in the process of doing the h/gasket. wondered what is the best way to go regarding a 2" lift and tyres ?. seen some basic kits for £200 ish, then tyres what size could i go for. will be using it on and off road. nothing to agressive though .cheers alan....

You should be able to pick up a 2" lift kit (4 x springs, 4 x shocks) for about £240 ish.

Tyres, you can start at 235/85/16 and depending on how much cutting you want to do to the arches, keep increasing. BFG All Terrains would be an ideal choice for on and off road tyres.

If you are not doing anything to serious then why would you wish to lift it?

I did my lift 'on the cheap' with a lot of ebay bits, had to buy shocks new though (£175!!!), I am running BFG mud terrains 265/75/16, they are about the same height as 235/85/16 but a bit wider, I have had to trim a little off the folded under bit on my rear quarter panels but apart from that they have been fine, for what I can gather everyones car differs when modifying the tyres/suspension, my XS standard alloys have always looked like they needed spacing out which is probably whay I didn't need to cut much out to fit the tyres (had to adjust full lock stops though), there is talk about castor correction etc. this always starts a debate but my experience is do the lift, fit the tyres and see how happy you are with how it drives, if you can live with it fair play, mine has been fine with a 2" lift on (britpart yellow springs) and it handles BETTER on the road (leave anti roll bars on but pack them down 2" with a bit of 2" box section )  Your wheels look like they are sticking out already so 235/85/16 is probably the best option.

BFG mud terrains are awesome, they are quiet on the road and unstoppable off the road, they aren't much more than BFG all terrains either (about £120 each), although the all terrains are probably better for road use than mud terrains, depends how much on/off roading you do (mine gets used more off than on)

That's the sort of question that will have a bemusing number of different replies, we all have our own oppinions.

My advice would be to leave it alone and go use it.  When you start getting stuck you'll then know what you are trying to acheive from big tyres and a lift.  You'll also have made a few mates who's advice you can put into context by seeing what their trucks will do.

Meanwhile get along to your local pub meet.

got me red one for daily use etc, this one just got is for fun but will still be used for carting kids about etc. just fancied a lift for the look but at the same time am a little concerned about the road handling, could fit castor corection bushes but then the front prop may suffer, just wanted a happy medium like bigger tyres and lift to take them. but dont want to get into triming arches, seen britpart and bearmach springs with procomp shocks as a kit for £200, wondered what these were like and what tyres could safely be matched. got an understanding mrs too that likes the idea .lucky eh. cheers alan.....
