I meant to go over to Evans at 'Xscape', as I was already in Pontefract early this afternoon.
Which was a big mistake, as the main road from jct 32 of the M62 wsa gridlocked, as there was a meeting at the Race-Course

Still, I've been browsing around & fancy this (for a start)

Trek 6000, in Metallic Orange/Black
(I saw this one the other week at Evans & liked it a lot)

Some of the strips were seriously hippy-ish/surreal, but always fun!

Mint Sauce

I used to ride with Joe Burt who draws Mint Sauce when I lived in Brighton.

Always use to like the Philosophy of mint sauce, went of the mag when it went more to fashion than to trail riding.

As a bit of a curve ball, there's always Calderdales 2nd largest bike company 'On-One'.

I know a few of these bikes, and they do seem to live up to the hype, both geared and single speed.

.....despite the fact that Brant Richards (exMBUK deputy ed) is MD!

Food for thought

Cheers

That's already been mentioned Nick

Now that's a double edged sword, isn't it?

I used to know Brant quite well during his days of working in 'Two Wheels Good' (the infamous Leeds bike shop that later took the 'FreeWheel' franchise)
Subsequently, I also know his old 'partner in crime' John Stevenson, & their old house-mate Deb Murrell (ex-British national MTB champion)

Now, quite how the guy has ever calmed down enough to run a business I will never know!    He's making it work, though and putting some darn good bikes together.

He always used to have the attention span of spaniel! But dang, he knew his bikes!  8)

Just a few seconds longer than a Goldfish then??

I've been over to Evans & had another look at that Trek again, also asked about the criteria for test-rides.

So, maybe later this week, I'll have another ride over ........

The guy offered me a ride there & then, but I can't ride in jeans, they're just too uncomfortable (so I'll go over in lycra & SPD shoes)

Coming back up to press, I almost bought an '06 Kona Caldera last month, but couldn't get the correct size.

So this afternoon........... I've ordered a Trek 6000 in orange/black)
Sadly it wasn't in the shop, so it's arriving on Tuesday.

With that in mind.......................... I've been checking up on the cyclo-cross calendar for this autumn.

Little question

Are the cleats from the original SPDs compatible with the present range?, or do I have to invest in new shoes & pedals as well??
Mindst you, I quite fancy a fresh pair of Sidis

No phone call today, but given the weather I think it may be a safe bet that it hasn't arrived?

Just been browsing around & I wish I could have persuaded SWMBO that one of these was the ideal bike for me*

A friend had one for a while, back in the mid-90s, as well as a 'FRO'. Great bikes

* UK distributor price is £699 (frame only)

I'd be happy with it at the recommended price, set up with a pair of Manitous, with Answer stem & bars (I'm 'old school' )

Anyway

I got it this morning :D
(quite the apt text colour  )

I've already swapped stem & bar, as it had a short stem (90mm??) & a pair of those 'sit up & beg' riser bars.
Now it's got a pair of flat Easton & a 110mm stem

Plus an old friend who I used to ride MTB & 'cross with donated a pair of SPDs to the cause.
Well done Nick

171/2, but yes, the top tube is fairly sloping

I'm about 5'9"

After a brief potter about this morning to try and set it up correctly, I've decided that I need another stem

The 110 isn't long enough as I can't get a decent (ie; stretched out) position.
I reckon a totally flat 130mm ought to suffice?
