WANT TO PLAY!!!!!!!!
« on: April 25, 2007, 22:39:45 »
bought a disco 300tdi in jan07. replaced stub axles, wheel bearings and brakes all round. replaced boot floor (no suprise there)! But now i want to play! Will be using it for fishing and off roading!

What should i put on my shopping list?
Already got gas shocks on back (these were on when i bought it)
Axle breathers front and back (also on when bought)

Also could any1 advise me on the best tyres to put on?

All the best! :D

This is completely subjective, but as a start you need some decent tyres - likely 235/85/16 MTs or similar (you'll need a "Camel cut") and decent recover points front and back. I'd add a fire extinguisher and some decent recovery equipment - i.e. you're own proper recover rope, shackles, etc, then take it out and see how you get on.

Tyres - for general on road and off road use you can't beat BFG MTs...

Leave the big lift kits, winches and snorkels, etc, until you know what the truck will do and how serious you are or you want to get. A general rule is that the better the thing is off road the less practical it'll be on road (ducks head and runs for cover... cos someone is bound to disagree).
It aint what you drive its the way that you drive it...

Ta for the advice! will be followed with great detail! very useful ta! couple of question though.

How much will the 235/85/16 tyres affect my speed (Dont need any speeding tickets) HaHa!

Excuse my ignorance but what a "camel cut"

Blakey . . . . loads of info on this site . . . . . just go have look through some of the past threads on lifts and wheels and tyres.

You might be suprised at what some of the guys have done to their trucks

Mines a fishing wagon . . . . I live out the back of it most of the time carp fishing . . . . got rod racks set up in the roof space . . .  chainsaw, axe and sledgehammer come as standard . . . if we're not fishing we're more than likely up some green lane somewhere

Oh btw . . . . you won't be getting many speeding tickets if you put 235/85's on . . . . . unless you do something about the fuelling and gearing . . . .

My advice, keep your money in your pocket.  That car is very capable just as it is.

Make sure you have

Decent recovery points
A rope
A CB
Some mates (not condoms, thanks guys  )

Get yourself to the pub meet next WEDNESDAY and join a local group outing.

Once you find the limits of your vehicle it's time to push the ability and buy some toys, but ask the rest of us, what, why, how much and you'l avoid any costly mistakes
