Seems to be recent news going by the statement from Max on the Gumball website.

I dare say it will continue.
I did the Italian Job run two years on the trot. There was a bad prang on one of them. but it didn't stop the run.
My sympathy goes out to the family of the deceased, and to those involved.
A shame it happened. Unfortunately any kind of motor sport carries a risk.

Very true, I don't know much about the Gumball rally, but it has to asked what Health and Safety regs were in place.
As mentioned, my only experience is with the Italian Job, for which H&S had been well catered for. Unfortunately there is still the human risk element.

being a big gumball fan (and i went to that start last weekend in london) i think it is qwuality. where else in the world do you find bugatti veyrons and lambos and ferraris all in one place and 120 of them?!

i think it is an incredible race, and have been following every day. this news came out middle of yesterday.

its most cirtainly not old news. a real shame, and i think it is good of them to stop the rally out of respect.

i dont think they will ban them. there are olther rallies like the gumball.
eg. carbon black, bull run etc etc.... google search them. they are very alike to the gumball.

i have some brilliant videos and pictures whitch i can share a few with anyone if they want...

My understanding is it's not actually a race, it's an event. There is a difference.

There is often a potential....why else would you get warnings on tickets for all  motorsport events if it wasn't to cover the organisers backsides against claims...

Sorry, that's not correct.  In any motorsport there is a risk to participants and spectators who have chosen to go along to the event, and who can make a decision that the enjoyment outweighs the risk.

NOT to a member of the public who happens to be going down to the shops to get a loaf of bread.  Do you reckon the guy who was killed had purchased a ticket?  Did he have any say in his participation?

This may be true, but how many of the drivers can actually cope with the cars they're in?
Are they pushing them too much for their own levels of skill & reaction-times?

Is it just a case of it you can afford the entry-fees & support/accomodation costs, you're in??

What happened at gumball was just a tragic accident.... That same man could of been knocked down by any other member of the public as much as a participant of the rally.

Most of these people driving the cars own them, so they could be out in their car at anytime not just a gumball event, and gumball is more about the lavish partys and the type of people that attend rather than "winning" because as was said before its not a race its an experiance.  One that you pay a hell of alot for.

People die on the roads everyday so really its inevitable that eventually someone should die during the gumball rally wether they were part of it or not......  Im sure who evers family it is will be very well compensated for there loss (or hang on am i thinking of england where death = money).

I hope that it won't be "banned" or "cancelled" in the future i quite enjoy watching it on the telly doubt id ever have the money to enter (although you never say never in this world), but it would be a shame for all those people who do have the money to be able to experiance something as big as the gumball if it was stopped.

Anyhow like i said an accident, accidents happen getting out of bed, eating your dinner, going to the shops, taking part in motorsport or anything else you do daily.

Living is a risk and at the end of living comes your time....... be you choke on a peice of toast or get knocked over by a bugatti!

So you don't think untrained drivers in high-powered cars deliberately charging across several countries in a few days might just be a little more dangerous than a guy in a Mondeo driving under the limit?  Sorry, I just don't agree with that.  Of course it's dangerous...  that's part of the appeal.  They might say it's not a race but I don't see anybody in anything other than a sports car;  why would you turn up in an Enzo to do a leisure drive?  Of course it's a race.

Well actually an ice cream van entered and finished the gumball rally one year saw it on the tv it couldn't do more than 50mph if that in some countries with the hilly roads....... and when watching iv seen other "normal" cars there............. People do it for the experiance the people driving the high powered cars drive them daily not just for the gumball!

If i had the money to enter id in my defender, i know id never win but like i said its the experiance of been involved in something so big and meeting people you never usually would and going places you'd never normally go.

infact come to think of it the ice cream van won the award for spirit of the gumball because it stood for everything that gumball rally was about, not about winning but taking part and having a good time and the determination to keep on going! It came last at every single stage that late that it missed out on nearly all the parties yet still won the award for what the whole rally was about......

well your right about the first bit... who knows? i dont know if they can cope with them? who knows?

the second bit... not anyone can enter. you need to submit to the gumball and they need to see and scruitineer your car first. if they like it and it meets the rules and regs and you are lucky enough to be one of the 120 cars and you have £45,000 to enter then yes, you are entered into it. but it is down to the gumball if they want you in or not.

The jackass boys did it in a motorhome once too.

I think they've been lucky up until now that none of the competitors have been killed or seriously injured, such is the nature of the event. There have been some huge crashes!

Its unfortunate, but i hope it doesn't stop future gumballs. Its an awesome event.

whilst it might not stop the event, I think they will certainly be seeing some changes.

....and probably rightly so, IMO (as a motorsport competitor and marshall).

Fundamentally, regardless of how much you pay to enter, you're still a hooligan driver exceeding legal limits on public roads, then partying in the evenings.

It's a recipe for a disastor and one day...oops, too late.......

Motorsport is regulated for some really good reasons. Public safety must be the paramount concern.
