NEW DEFENDER
« on: May 05, 2007, 18:26:38 »
Well, went and looked at the new one down Matford, looked about the same from outside, apart from bonnet, and ugly dents where air flaps use to be.
Opened door, to see all rubber flooring, no galv strip along door holding it down, dash looked ok.
Then i climbed in, all the talk is of more room, well i am 6'4", and it felt more cramped than normal, all the dash is closer to you, so it seems more cramped than before, and my legs are tight under the steering wheel.
Couldnt try a 110 DC, as they are late arriving, was hoping the 110 might have more scope to move seat back futher, and perhaps change steering wheel.
And for a saturday morning, very quiet in showroom.

Anybody esle looked at one yet?

Have a look at the topic in the General section nameed '2007 Defender' or similar.

A new 110 is as rare as a white dog poo at the moment - hope it will change this week...

Test drove the 90 SW at the weekend. Brilliant. The engine is very feisty and the gearbox smooth and positive.

I know what you mean about cramped!

I'm not the first to notice the drivers seat is nearer the door than previously, and it was close before! I think it's somehting to do with fitting that new gearbox (which as said is positve and smooth).

Did you know the engine has been detuned from it's fitment in the Tranist? Now, that opens up some possibilities.

It was the 110 I drove.

Cheers

Dealer down my way yesterday admited that the 110's are being held up.

Somthing to do with the timing belt tensioner of the transit lump having a problem at around 40,000 miles.

It's still that new 2nd row seat part problem. Not the engines, as the 90 engines are identical to 110's and the 90s have been rolled out.

However, LR have set themselves a typically 'British Leyland' deadline of end of June to roll out the 50 'priority' 110s which are all completed and sitting in a compound in Warwirckshire getting wet while they wait for this part.

They want to hurry up and get the problem sorted before i hunt them all down and microwave their pet dogs...

No, is the short answer.

We put our name down in November for the 2007 model. They have never issued a date really. The closest they got was "April" and during April, once the date had passd they said they launched it on 16th April.

Ours is built and has been for a good three weeks, but is waiting for that part, and is on the priority list of 50 cars (for what it's worth).

Mrs Seb and I went to our dealership yesterday to see if we wanted someting else instead (D3 or RR) but what we really want is our Defender!

LR have their customers over a barrel. They already have a massive order list and make so few cars in comparison to Ford or the Japanese car manufs that they know if someone pulls out they will sell the car in 5 minutes. As a result they treat their customers (and dealers) like rubbish.

Customer Services have promised some freebies when we eventually get it. I will be pushing for everything!

Same as the old ones essentially + about £500 across the range. Still bloody expensive what what you actually get but for some reason we still pay it!  :P

I had a drive of one last week taking it back from the paint shop to the dealer (less than 100miles on the clock)

The owner had decided the paint wasn't up to a high enough standard and wanted some minute blemishes sorting.

My 1st surprise was that they missed the opportunity to move the seat in to the middle a bit so it is still comfier to drive with the window open!!

as for the engine and box though, fantastic...................

gets up to the legal limit quickly and stays there easy in 6th. at 60MPH in top your pulling just under 2000RPM

I only used 4, 5, and 6 really no matter how slow things got, pull away in second no problem and away you go.
I HAVE THE BODY OF A GOD

shame its Budda!!

some one probs a mag has  done a test of the anti- stall they park it on gravel with a tow rope to an artic lorry some one gets in passanger side turns key when in gear and off it goes pulling the wagon....maga.
then wagon brakes and the defender just burries itself in the gravel...nice.
i go past a dealer on the way to work there is lots of space in readyness for the eventual release but i dont think the production line would grind to a halt for trivial part to do with the seat????

You would have thought so, wouldn't you? I suspect it's not trivial at all. Whole new 2nd row of seats, so a whole new range of parts i assume. Plenty of scope for cock up

THERE IS A GOD!!!

I had a phone call with the dealer last night who told me that HQ had informed them that there would be no hope of our 110 arriving before the end of June.

I had a phone call this morning to say that the dealership had received our car this morning and that we can take delivery at the w/e!

I am as smug as smug can be. Photos to follow.

There is hope then for all the others on here waiting for thier 110s.
