Vitara lights n the dreaded MOT
« on: May 06, 2007, 18:26:53 »
Strange one I know but Caz's Vit is almost MOT ready, however I have one last problem
It has full rear lights both in the body and in the bumper, most Vits I have seen have one or the other???
Poss it is a bumper off a different model??? the lights and all the fittings are there but there is no power to any of the wires...Indicators/side/brake/reverse, however all the ones in the body work fine.
If I cant resolve I will spray over the bumper lights and no problems... :)

The other issue is there is no fog light :O although the switch is on the dash and illuminates...

Where should the foglight be as there is not one in any cluster.... and what colour is the wire so I can try n find it...

Cheers Steve

The fog lights go in the other fitting to the standard lights. So if the lights are in the body, the fogs are in the bumper and vice versa.

If your lights are in the bumper the fogs go in the body.
If in the body cant remember where it goes, just paint over the bumper ones or get the all working, and fit a small extra fog light to the back door or bumper.
I have a spare set of body mount fogs if you need them?
Remember it will come in handy even if you never use it

IIRC the uk versions had the lights in the bumper and the fog lights in the body work and the U.S version had the lights in the body work and no fog lights. Its normal for some poeple to get a set of U.S back lights and fit them into the body work then just wire the brake lights in the bumper to the fog light wiring and all should be ok.
Hope that helps

Decide Which you want to keep (Body would be best as the bumper ones get mullered)

In the body behind the light you'll find the connectors for the lighting units, one for fogs, one for the clusters on each side. Then its a matter of connecting the set you want. You'll need to break into the harness and add another connector for both and the wiring down there is usually in a pretty sorry way.

If you are keeping bumper lights, go get the fogs of another vit, most have body mounted fogs. You can try finding bumper fogs but dont fancy your chances. Blank off/paint the clusters and put external fogs on,. You should be able to pick up the wiring in the body cavity behind the light clusters.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I will swap your body mounted lights for the correct fog lights to go in the body if its any use to you as I have some spare?
Remember it will come in handy even if you never use it
