Hello all,
Thinking of a kind of project/ destruction rampage! My N/a Goes about 65mph on the motorway and is slow at acceleration. Was just wondering is it could reach 70 and cruise at it? I was thinking of getting a kand n filter as they claim to improve things. Can you tweak the fuel pump or is this not a good idea? Any other suggestions? Can i change the transfer box for a disco one?
Cheers
Simple answer... not really.
K and N - (personally i'd go for a ITG filter) will make next to no difference to performance - especially on an NA diesel. Do make a bit of a difference on a Tdi and Td5 though... but not the 100bhp people seem to think.
Pump tweaking. You can increase the fueling slightly, but usually you can't get that much more out of them.
The main thing to check is that the timing is 100% spot on - and the injectors are in good condition.
Changing the transfer box for a Disco one will actually make it slower!!
The higher gearing will affect your acceleration and I doubt the NA will be able to pull any more than the 65mph you get now. In fact you may actually find you over gear it, and it will only reach 65mph on a downhill slope.
At the end of the day, it is a NA diesel, so never going to be that quick. If you want more performace the real options would be a 200 or 300Tdi, a Td5.... or a V8 lol.
Just check the normal things....
Tappet clearences are correct, clean air filter, clean fuel filter, the accelerator cable is correctly adjusted etc etc.
