warn 9.5 XP
« on: May 09, 2007, 02:40:33 »
ok ive been looking at winchies for along time now and was going to by a cheaper make winch just so i could get one alot sooner, but after along think, ive decided that if im going to buy one i masswell buy a decent one from the start instead of buying 1 then it breaking 12months after....

so ive decided the only route is WARN.... ok they do cost loads but im sure ill be well happy when i have one...

the problem now is which one?????

ive also thought of having the good old 8274-50 with its super fast line pull, but ive seen many of these in action and at low loads yes they are fast but if u get anything realy stuck they just dont pull and u have to have a double line pull, which realy slows them down, after all its only rated at 8000lbs......
so i was also intrested in the 9.5 XP modle with a line pull of 9500lbs and a 6hp motor instead of the 4.6hp of the 8274-50, which in my head is good!!!

but now i just need people views on this winch.... are they any good???? do they break???? how good are they in proper usage???? etc.....

oh im sure danny boy will give me his view aswell and turn to the 8274-50 lol
I LOVE MUD!!!!!! but my engine doesnt

I have an xp and its damn good, if you have the brass i would defn get the 8274 and fit the xp motor....then  you will have an awesome winch. Many of the challenge guys run these and they have big brass balls!

here adam....ive sorted my batterys out since you last played in the mud with us

bully will back me up here, well, if he saw me at the weekend,
how many times did i double up ?
3 times IIRC    cos was gragging 10 tone of crud infront of me

but lol

xp is a damn good winch, its low line so would suit your disco down to ground, IMO a 8274 isnt for you as you dont compete and quite frank, i dont think it would suit the front of your disco :? a low line tucked right back will look the dogs on yours afink
i need the 8274 as me n matt compete so need the fast line speeds and ong cable capacity, also they are so simple to fix when the go belly up, which is very handy as to strip a xp in the field is a marathon task

get a xp you wont regret
just bin the rubbish std solenoids and fit a allbright and get some decent batterys behind it
ive got twin yella's now

dan

ps nerrr proved you wrong...i could say the biggest load of rubbish ever and say the 8274 is the best winch ever, but it isnt, just being honest, they not for you

right...back to fixing the dents

well of course i dont do any challenges, i havent got a winch for 1 and i havent realy been into offroading for that long...... i think ive got quite far for how long ive been doing off roading

ok i can see why every1 says that the 8274 is good in challenges with its fast line pull, cuz u wanna get out of been stuck as quick as possible, but every time i think of this the same thing keeps popping in my head..... if your stuck you going to be towing with a load on the winch, which will slow it down and then the famous 8274 goes from its super fast 73 ft/min to a normal 12 ft/min at 1.8 tons.....

so anything with a higher load of 1.8 tons the 9.5XP is faster...... can u see where im coming from?????

ok danny boy, a little qustion for you...... has your 8274 ever cut out from over heating or burnt anything out????? and how much useage did it go through b4 it cut out????
I LOVE MUD!!!!!! but my engine doesnt

hop up the power to the Xp motor on the 8274 and hey presto...awesome.

Adam, i know where you are coming from and the XP is cheaper so if you arent after out and out speed go for the XP. They are very reliable in my experience and quick enough. They make cheepy winches look like snails especially under heavy load.

only stalled the 8274 once, and that was at the comp on sun
ill show you a picture why
was only on single line so can understand why

burn out overheats wise, none ever, the motor is stripped on the 8274 now so your more than welcome to come over have a brew and look at the motor yourself. armeture and commentator are just as it was when brought new

can understand what your saying bout the xp and pull wise and line rates ect ect but your missing the point, people dont have 8274's for there speed full load, as a xp actualy beats them for that both in std form
they have them cos
1 they bombproof
2 very fast no load speed
3 fully waterproof std
4 very easy to service and fix
5 long line capacity
6 most of the breaking actualy comes through the gearbox, the external break just assists it
but the best feature    is the motor sits that high up, so when your motor is underwater, mine is still 6 inch's above so nerrr

i still stick to my words, the xp is the better choice 4 you

forgot 2 things there

1 is the ability to throw 100ft o plasma on an 8274 & not worry about bunching it up for the next pull
2 nis the fact that for 100ft o rope, uve got it back on the drum waiting to go before ur biatch has even got the strop of the tree uve been using as an anchor

lets be honest here who regularly pulls at there full load capacity of there winch?

when i had my 12k only once was i needing to pull from the bass layer so its full pull,

the 8274 u just spool out, whap the rope onto an anchor & wind in & your off

the bottom layer of plasma on my drum is new    never seen daylight since bein fitted

downside to the 8274 is that its that quick spooing out, its quicker than i can get my monkey to run
