That does get a bit complex actually:If you are insured but not taxed and taking the car for an MOT etc. then certainly no problem. If you are 'insured' but not taxed adn driving around then in the event of a claim the insurance company could claim that they have no liability as the car was not legally on the road. Weak but I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of that. This guy was just a scrote of a Boy Racer though; he will get what he deserves, I'm sure the police will check the documents.
No tax = no tax end ofIt REALLY hacks me off when people make this assumption, TAX means you have to have these items but it doesnt mean you dont have them. My landlords been on at me over this re my donor car and was promply shot down in flames. Un untill a few weeks ago this car was insured and MOTed but not taxed. In your case, yes you did right as its on a public road but careful what assumptions you make.
At work I've just bought a smart Roadster, its an 03/53 28k miles and is in two bits with 3ft mid section cut out and kept for inspection...... also no chasss plates....
i think you did the right thing to report him but to be frank i think you were daft to confront him. Its not worth the risk tbh. No disrespect but you are asking for trouble and if his car is taken away and destroyed i would make sure he doesnt find where you live.there are too many nutters out there nowadays.
