Right as most of you know im currently running a disco.
now i need to make a decision. do i bobtail it or not.
obviously a bobtail would be slightly lighter and there would be less overhang. however! the car is so high the overhang isnt to bad. i was thinking instead of bobtailing it just making the back end like a skid pan so it just bounces and slides off stuff.
what would be better......any ideas?

Noooooo  don't bobtail a Disco... they look horrible  :oops:

What do you want to use it for ?  That has a big effect on what you do.

i use it in winch challendes etc. the only reason im thinking of bobtailing it is because im bored of having to replace smashed rear windows and wings etc.

How about turning it into a pickup or tray back ?   You can shorten the back end, the open back will be much more practical for challenge events, and it won't look so nasty ;-)

If they'd been done like that to start with they'd look fine.
It's just getting used to the look.
Go for a bobtail.

i definatly dont want a pickup. thats what my rangie was and i didnt like it. i must admit im starting to lose enthusiasm to bobtail it. the car is so high im not sure it needs to be done anyway. ive never caught the back coming down a slope. just hit the rear pannels on trees etc. maybee some tree sliders would be better???

I'd vote for 'tray'. Seen 'em on Classic Rangies and they look like the hounds undercarriage.

Thinking of building a bobbed and trayed 110 (ext cab) at sometime - just need to sort the finances #-o

Personally I like the standard look.

If you are worried about weight - lose the windows, grp rear door even GRP 3/4 if you are really keen.

I can put you in touch with someone who does GRP doors etc. for Discoveries (like on my rally car!) at a very good price.

Haven't damaged it too much yet, although I have taken a tree or two down the side of it in Scotland and Wales.

I personally like the Bobtailed look, and when mine finishes it job as being the family motor I may well go down this route.

Ever seen an Aussie ute? Its just what it says, the rear tub is replaced with a flat tray the width of the original body work - turns it into a flat bed. Makes loading and unloading stuff really easy, makes an excellent higher level rock slider and they weigh significantly less than a chuck of body work. LR did some 110 with double cabs and tray backs for the Oz market many moons back. Looked interesting.
