Chaos on the roads! Yup, its pension day!
« on: May 31, 2007, 14:20:16 »
Sorry bit of a rant here but my last 4 hours of driving have been made a nightmare by the Blue Rinse Brigade, I need a rant. Seems that some of this lot probobly account for about 3 or 4 chavs's worth of bad driving and attitude.

We'll start with the drive from Denmead to Hedge End. Found a brand new MX5, personal plate, old bat behind the wheel (could bearly see over it) doing 25mph round the back roads. I can kind of accept this in places but come on, if the dizzy heights of 30 on an open straight road is just way too much, perhaps you shouldnt A) have a performance car B) even be on the road. Get out onto a long, open stretch 60 limit, foot to the floor to overtake her and I get 2 fingers and she pulls over in front to stop me overtaking! I'm doing about 50 after a run-up at this point and she's still at 25. I'm so glad I drive a 4x4 as the overtaking involved the opposite verge and her being showred in mud and grass. I mean [Edited]!? Why stop me overtaking. Reg plate time noted down and passed to a friendly copper.

Then comming into Bitterne the traffic is slowing to a complete crawl. Lights are green, no reason I can see for the hold up, oh hang on, yes, it's a godsdamn mobility scooter pottering down the middle of the road, two good pavements with let-downs on either side but no, we have to be on the road. No road tax, no lights, no insurance, what the bloody hell is it doing there?! Incidentally its the same one I nearly flattened a few days ago that was out at 9pm with no lights on the same bit of road! More notes for local bobby.

Carved up on the motorway roundabout by a fiesta and an old grandad with the spacial awareness of a blind elephant, who then proceeds to drive down the white line between the lanes and starts breaking at the last moment, for a few seconds I thought a tanker was gonna tag him. Carved up again at the next roundabout by the same codger where another 4x4 eventually pushes him into a lane.

All over so I thought, no, another queue, hedge end junction ad dear old Aunty Dot tries to get her unlicened, untaxted, uninsured electric motorbike round a busy motorway roundabout.

Why are these people still allowed to drive when they acheive some of the most stupid accidents of all time! For god's sake get these people off the road and inform them that yes, they may have faught in the war but the law applies to them too and it wont help them when they get mown down by a caffine crazed EU trucker thats just had enough.

ARGH!
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Compulsory re-testing every 5 years, and you'd get one year to pass.  Job done.

We hate pension day when it's been icy, or snowing.
As there's generally at least one old dear who's fallen & broken her hip.

The call to the Ambulance crews (from Control) is allegedly 'Nan Down!'

you want to be behind my father in law
he got to a set of traffic lights on red one day and then promptly fell asleep at the wheel
no one stopped to see if he was ok though   when he finally woke up his mate who was in front of him reckoned the lights had changed 4 cycles by the time he realised   he then proceeded to cut up those people who were going round him thinking they were trying to beat him off the lights
this was 5 years ago and he,s still driving

m6 yesterday got overtaken by two old timers, who then proceeded to cut back in without checking for space or indicating, i had to anchor it or i would have been a goner, went past and gave them "that look" and they were totally oblivious, face up against the windscreen chewing mints no doubt

Did you see the Jo Brand prog where she had a rant about oldies behind the wheel ?

To give them their due some of the bluerinse brigade did volunteer for a mock test and passed, but one old git ( approx 98yr old iirc) took about 6 attempts to reverse his car out of his own driveway without hitting the flowerbeds, then proceeded to mount the kerb opposite.

He had actually been "advised" by his doctor to stop driving but in a letter to DVLC the old bloke stated that in HIS own opinion he was still capable of being in control of a vehicle....and that his clean driving record proved it ...so they let him have a licence.... how stupid is that ?

Some sort of compulsory testing has to be the way forwards otherwise these incompetent dithering idiots will end up killing someone.

IMHO some of these oldies are as bad as drink/ drug drivers !
Get em off the road !

Heres one incident the media caught, sounds like she stamped her foot in a temper tantrum:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=414156&in_page_id=1770

My sister inherited my Grandfathers car after his death, now several familly members refused to get in it with him but so far in order to get the car up to shape she's got to have all four wheel arches rebuilt (load of scores and scuffs, dorr replaced (its gone rusty on one edge from being beaten against other cars/walls/padestrians/flopwerpots.... both bumpers and two wheels. She's done what was needed for the MOT but the pummelling the little car has taken is amazing.

It's presumably in tribute to all the war films where they call; "Medics! We Gotta Man Down!!'"

It's not as bad as the names used by the Ambulance boys for the Fire Brigade, ie; 'Human Drip-Stands' & 'Water-Squirters'

(obviously the services do actually have the greatest respect & admiration for each others work)

And for the drink of choice for the alkies/homeless they all deal with; 'Tramp Juice'!

You missed 'Water Faries' :)

We picked a fight with em one year at the boat show. Had 5 large syringes all taped together. Found it really funny when they then blamed the Jhonners that were there next to us and hosed one of their ambulances down.

I'm no longer a member as of two months ago, just too much on the go. Sorta still attached to HantsAmb in a not at all but availabe in an emergency sort of way.

You need to get down to do the Boatd Show or The Military Tattoo some time though, I'm normally there as a bystander and some of the things that go on when the gates get closed for the night/last day... :)

And i thought it didn't happen down here.

Today in a village near by there is a seperate Bus Road for about 50 yards next to the Car park which runs in front of the row of shops. Now remember the parking and the bus road has been a one way system since time begain.

Now today a lady of advanced years managed to drive the wrong way down the bus road and when coming face to face with the bus that was pulling in she swerved off the road and drove onto the pavement before hitting the bus shelter.    Shear madness.
