CV Bearing Failure - UPDATED - NEW TOY FITTED
« on: June 05, 2007, 19:23:39 »
My CV went about 2 months ago and I stripped it down and found the pin bearing totally trashed.

Whilst it was off I replaced the CV as well as the bearing.

This seemed to fix the problem  :D

In the last couple of days there has been the telltale squeel coming from the same wheel.  :?

Will have to strip it down again in the morning.

Anyone know if this is a common problem or is there a secret to fitting that I have not come accross?   :?:

Will update with findings tomorrow.

Cheers Taz   8)

Cheers mate

I got the lamps about 18mth ago and mounted them on my lightbar on my Defender.

Got them off a Landy guy off Eblag for abou £35 including wiring loom.

They do come up but not often.

After a quick fettle with the dremmel the mounted snuggly into the grill.

I found that big spots tend to get bashed with playing off road.

Nice neat job that mate, how much did the winch and kit etc. cost, I am looking at getting one nearer Christmas, I don't want the big hefty winch bumper on so what you have done looks a good solution (just need somewhere to put ur number plate now  )

Hi Chris

The winch including wireless remote came to about £210

The mounting plate cost £20 for the steel plate and a length of angle

I made the mount myself as I did not want a large sticking out winch bumper.

As for the number plate :-

If you want my details please let me know.

Stripped down the CV unit this morning.

Found everything to be OK.  :?

Cleaned everything and re-greased / oiled

Rebuilt and went for a test run.

Everything now seems OK.

Landies - A marvel of mechanical engineering.

is a standard bumper strong enough to take a winch? I would have thought it would just bend and buckle when put under strain? I know they are rated to 100kg so fitting a tow bar is no probs for manouvering a trailer / caravan around.

Hi,  The winch is mounted on a custom winch plate bolted to the chasis and the Fairlead only is bolted to the bumper with a re-inforced plate.
