300tdi that outpaces a V8
« on: June 08, 2007, 16:19:45 »
Hi,

After some considerable off road trips with my mates who own V8's i have realised that mine will outpace any V8.

Anyone who wants a race offroad is welcome to come and try it.

The course starts with some gentle wading \:D/

No problem ......

You might want to state what sort of V8

I seem to recall I towed a TD5 home due to water ... and there are lots of V8's out there with ECU's in sensible places and no Dizzy's .....

My TD5 Disco will outpace my friend's V8 110 on tarmac.  But that's largely because his engine is the V8 equivalent of Shane MacGowan.

Seem to remember a Td5 beating a V8 on the runway at Abingdon one year, I think Thrasher was there to witness this

Lee ... it was a Td5 vs a Td5 - one chipped one not.

However I'm more than willing to race any 300tdi/td5 ...... but remember my 0-60 is 7 seconds or less ....

I reckon off road with me it would be 0-60 in 7 minutes.

6 miunutes and 53 seconds to dry and 7 seconds to get to 60!

Remember i would start with some gentle wading.

You lucked out .... my V8 is waterproof. From the factory - no nasty dizzy etc.  8)

Only disadvantage is that it has no snorkel at the moment - oh and it cost um .... well .... lots.

In fact - my Discovery would do the same job to be honest - if you know how to wade and you do it properly there's no reason for an engine to cut out. Only gung-ho attitudes cause water to get where it should not. Of course should either engine sip water one WILL go bang, and the other will boil it off.....

...in fact I think I can say quite easily that mine has never been stopped by water. It's been slowed by thick wet mud splattered all over it, but it didn't stop the engine.....let me see if I can find any video footage of it up to the windscreen......and my old 4.4 L322 managed to wade without issue too...

Hmmm .. found one vid (some might recognise the site!)

I hope that works .... !?! It does prove a V8 can wade and isn;t stopped by the wet stuff :s

If you want I have some footage of Tim's V8 90 taking the mickey in deep water too ;-)
