police cuts

Not a rant about the police but goverment cuts. Went to hand in a producer at my local police station (swadlincote) to find its only open 9-5 monday to friday. Now as i am a hgv driver and away all week. How am i going to show my paperwork etc. think this goverment must think we are all normal job people that can just slip from work and pop along to the local police station during the day. So now after ring up the enquiry office and it ringing for 27 mins (yes i did count) i got a person on the phone and was told i have to go to either derby or alferton police stations. It just dont get any better also found out that at the weekend we have a pcso office patroling around swad so they have to call the pc down from derby if they need one. Just dont figure

Its the same all over, Home Office funding cuts means Police Stations are closed. We have a great bobby box in the village where I work only to be told its being used by a civie unit and I am not allowed to go there!
Then they say due to the new Neighbourhood Policing teams we want officers out in the rural, "go find a office oh and by the way we have no money to pay rent and cannot get you a computer!"
Ok "How about a car to patrol the 150 sq miles I cover?"
"sorry no money! but you could get a sponsored car  but we wont pay for the servicing or repairs"

Frustrating or what!
If want to walk it walk it, if you want to ride it ride it just leave me alone to drive it!

Yes i bet it is very frustrating for you. Not good at all. They say we will get tuff on crime etc then take away the kit you need to get tuff on crime. Oh come the revolution.

I had a radical idea once when I was in Norfolk Plod. I came up with the idea of having a police house in each village, so that the bobby who lived there would know everybody and build up trust with the community, visit the local schools and youth clubs, keep an eye on the local pubs, monitor the local gathering places etc etc, and some chinless wonder at HQ said that it was 'a really radical new idea'.
I then pointed out that that had been how it used to be, until the Head Shed had decided to 'streamline' and sell off all the houses, put the beat cops into cars in the big towns, and hence lose all the community contacts.
I used to live and work in the same village, and the contacts I built up were brilliant. Most of the time, I knew about incidents and had dealt with them before they even got onto the computer at HQ, but now it has all gone.
My old village has seen their new 'beat manager' (PC ballshot terminology) once since I left two years ago.
A real shame, but it is called progress apparently

I rember my village bobby. And god help you if he caught you doing anything wrong. Like scrumping he would give you a clip around the ear hole then give you the chouse to tell your perants yourself or he would do it. And it was down to who got to your house first. Which was not to bad as he had a ford escort police van and we had push bikes so could cut down the allys. still think it was one of the best ways to police.

Call at ANY Police Station to produce. It is a Station of your choice that's the deciding factor.

where i live the police prescence was cut to office hours so if a call was made out of hours they came from eastbourne about 20 mins away.guess what crime rate went thru the roof cos all the scum knew they had time to get away so they manned the station 24hr and another surprise the crime rate went down by 60%  and is getting better

Hmm, the use of logic and common sense by the hierarchy in the Police Service.  That is an unusual occurence!
I'm surprised that whoever came up with that idea hasn't been taken away for 're-education'!

Hi a response here requires a 2 hour car journey followed by a ferry or fishing boat ride sometimes.
