Keep it as it is now ... it got very boring/annoying/etc when people posted "PM'd you" and similar, even more so when people got unhelpful comments or the thread got hijacked

Posting replies enables other users to gain info about what is being offered and lets face it, if you pick up a thread which is a couple of days old and PM someone to be told its gone several days later by PM then it is a bit disheartening.

The mods do a good job which is made difficult by the selfish minority. But that is something which is reflected throughout life.

Having read the discussion and given that the forum software knows if a user is a mod or admin, what about keeping the current system more or less as it us but making it more user-friendly for ordinary forum users? This could be done, quite easily (wearing my computer programmer's hat), as follows:

A mod or admin user has normal functionality.

The seller can only modify the original post.

An ordinary user views the thread and wants to post a question: The "post reply" button takes him/her to a customised "Send PM" or "Send Email" page which explains why and allows the user to enter a message there and then instead of having to go back and specifically select the option to PM or Email the seller.

If an item for sale has its title ending in "SOLD" (not case sensitive) then the thread is automatically treated as if an admin or mod has locked the thread for everyone except the seller, in case the sale falls through, mods and admins.

Thoughts?

PS. I have voted to keep the current configuration.

Someone already suggested on the other post about the for sale section that as long as members selling put SOLD in the title it will stop people being disappointed. I voted to keep it the way it is........ I prefer it this way cos I know as soon as I log on or when I check my mail that someone wants to know something about my post............ and for those who say they don't have emails to tell them, change your settings instead of trying to change the forum :x

Reality Checks with Eeyore:

We stopped the replies in the For Sale section because members (not the Flockwatchers) kept abusing the priviledge.

Threads were getting hijacked, people were getting offended, some members were just being down right abusive. Some members kept consistantly bumping threads.

We don't have many rules and them we have we like folk to heed some attention too. So when push comes to shove, we'll do what we can to make our lives that tad bit easier. Therefore, having got tired of editing posts, and PMing folk and getting verbal for our time, we decided that until the Membership could utilise the For Sale priviledge properly, we'd end the ability to reply to posts.

We will apologise to the innocents who have found this difficult, but to all those that have been the reason for it happening - don't blame the dog, you trod in it

I'm going to lock this thread now, as I don't see it has a lot of milage left. Some members have made their points, the Mods and Admins have made theirs. And to be fair to the Admins, they don't have to explain themselves to anyone - it's their party, after all. Lets just thank them for making their points here and for continuing to provide us with these free-to-use forums.

Now, move along folks, there's nothing to see here.

Cheers
