I drove this road (who says you don't need a 4X4 for the school run).
It was about 6 inches over the bonnet.

Richard, I went through Friday in my Vitara but I must admit I was getting a bit worried when it started lapping over the bonnet, only just made it through.

Well, this was the River Aire off the Lock Lane bridge at about 14:00 this afternoon

We've been done tonight after taking 2&half hours to get home.
Barnsdale road this is at least 2 ft deeper than last Friday:
On the road from Fairburn to Ledsham we found a funny Irish guy in 4ft of water.  I waded in as at the time I had no idea just how deep it was.
I persuaded him that we couldn't get the Mitsubishi out that night.

When I walked in my Land Rover was NOT in the water when we returned it had reached the back wheels and my riggers were starting to get wet.

We brought him home, warmed him up and gave him a cuppa.

Mind you it has been heavey so might pop up denby or bakewell for some laning.

Well, I've not been in to work today, set off at 8ish, took us an hour and a half to do a few miles, so turned around in disgust and set off home again.  All got released from work early yesterday, as one of the guys I work with, his missus works for the council, so we had advance warning of the roads being closed.  I work in sheffield, at the bottom of the parkway, by the canal, thank goodness, and not the river.  Took an hour and a half to get to work yesterday, and nearly 2 hours to go home again.  The place where I work is literally 5 minutes walk from the Wicker, where one of the chaps died yesterday after being swept away.  You don't notice how many water courses you pass when going to work, until they decide to burst their banks and use your road as a short cut.  So having an enforced day off, watching all of the news helicopters coming and going, as I live slap bang between Sheffield and the dam at Ulley.  Been over the bridge there loads of times, looks like its mostly underwater now (you can just about see the parapet).   Hope they can shore it up and make safe, as the motorway closure is causing chaos - the motorway has several bridges over the river rother flood plain, if the dam is breached, these may well get swept away.

Hope all mud-clubbers in the area are OK, and making the most of the puddles, not having to clear up the mess left by the flood.

I'm just glad RRB and I live on top of a hill, seriously thinking we should've invested in a boat rather than a caravan, though!!!

PS, Hope they're keeping the dambusters squadron well away from Ulley, I keep hearing jets (fighters, though, not bombers!) going overhead, so even the RAF has gone to rubberneck.....

A mate of mine rang me to tell me about Rufford ford..incredible !


Mind you I was stuck in Hull for 12 hours yesterday after hydrolocking the bloody works van...Wheres me landy when I want it !!

Hull was unbeleviable I've never seen anything like it !

Be a bit a cautious of 'playing' in the usual fords in these conditions. Some poor bloke got swept away at the ford near Pershore.

Normaly it's only inches deep but venturing into 5 feet of water isn't wise.

We were on our way to a job yesterday and came to a local ford, saw a freebie go through no problem so we went for it! Not good when you are in a Astra! :shock:  The water was about 2 feet, the car made it through Just with a bow wave over the window :shock:

To be honest I think it surfed the first 10 feet! :lol:

Well we got out just as it died, but Luckily we managed to get it going again after a while with out having to call our control  :oops:

When we got back we did have a good laugh. Sometimes the blue lights and excitement just get the better of you!

its not normally a ford!
i been down there again today and now the road is open but with about a foot of water at the deepest part.
its no where near the river and is only flooded cos the drains are blocked, so theres no flow.
it could only have been 2ft deep yesterday when i got turned away.

I notice some people in the media have been 'moaning' about the wash from bow waves of 4x4's and trucks ploughing through the waters. Please be aware of the havoc your bow wave might be wreaking when making your way through water. In particular be aware of swamping smaller vechicles or sending waves of water at peoples houses. We 4x4 owners have a poor image all ready- please don't make it worse by acting irresponsibly.

A couple of days ago I was talking to the crew in the Ambulance featured in this article, they'd been 'blued' (called out) to the south of the City & made the decision to commit, as the alternative routes added anything between 15 & 45minutes dependant on the other traffic.
'XXX' who was driving said they started to get worried when papers were water appeared in the door-pockets :lol:

I've also been down Newton Lane at Ledston today (mentioned previously in this thread by me) & the water levels don't appear to have changed at all.


The bridge that I took the image of the piling platform from (also earlier in this thread) has had the civil engineers inspecting it over the past couple of days for, presumably(?) flood damage.

Took the photos at North Beck near Sleaford the river was up 8 Foot!
I want to foston ford :lol:  Never seen anything like it in my life! that was up another 8 or so feet!

I forgot to add.......

Obviously the road was closed due to the water levels (it's the main arterial road out of Wakefield to the south-east, ie; Doncaster)

Just adjacent to the closure is the areas 'travellers camp'.
It was nice to see that their usual various 'legitimate business's' were severely curtailed for the day, as there was a constant Police presence of at least 4 Officers stood not 20 yards from the camp entrance :lol:  :lol:  :lol:
