Knocking on Over run
« on: June 17, 2007, 19:02:36 »
Hi there,

I just changed the timing belt on my 200tdi defender and had the injector pump reconditioned. and now if rev the engine up and then take my foot off the throttle it makes a knocking sound. Im sure it wasnt there before!
I double checked the timing marks too, the injector pump injects just after top dead center (half a tooth on the crank pullley)

Any ideas?

does it sound like a diesel nock ?
try just retarding the FP timing to compensate for it being out down on the crank pully

Yeah, it does sound a bit like a diesel knock i spose. Its just curious how it only happens on overrun.
The fuel pump is already reatarded a bit, i can fit the timing pin in the fuel pump when the crankshaft pulley is half a tooth past top dead center. Should i retard it a bit more?

try retarding it a smidge more,
as long as the cam timings right, just messing with the pump timing should resolve it
