Discovery ignition amp

I hate to be a lurker who suddenly dives in with an urgent question, but I'm going to be anyway! Sorry...
Can anyone point me at the ignition amp in these pictures?
Is it this little b#gger (just on the right in line with the
wiring)...

Or on here somewhere...

As you may have guessed, I'm not well acquainted with electronic
ignition! I reckon even I could swap the amp if it is that thing next
to the coil though. Definitely cheaper to have a go than have the truck recovered to my mechanic....
Thanks
1995 3.9V8 by the way

Hi Tim
I would say it is the first one - referred to as a capacitor in the parts catalogue up to VIN KA039066 the part number is PRC1360, from VIN KA039067 its ADU7242L Should be no more than a couple of quid.
IF it is that! The second pic looks like the rotor arm to me, can't see anything else that stands out.
OTOH I am an oil burner kinda guy!

I alway thought that the amplifier was the little black (or blue?) box that was screwed to the side of the distributor.
Isn't it slightly curved in profile to match the distributor body?
This topic (if I'm thinking straight) is mentioned in this months, or lasts, 'LRM' in the feature on Lindsay Porters Range Rover re-build

Yes I think you're right Richard, the part I was describing is a suppressor I think.
From following this discussion on
alt.fan.landrover newsgroup
the amp is hidden away behind the coil or plugs into the coil depending on age etc.
Anyway, Tim's got a new coil and bits and is waiting for the battery to charge up - fingers crossed for you Tim!

Just like yourself Chris, I've got the oil-burner, but I had distributor problems with my 90CSW-V8 after the LPG conversion so it stuck in my mind.
(a friend also had amplifier problems when he used to own a 101GS)

Well, the ignition amp is the little thing hidden away behind the coil bracket. Word of caution - LR dealers want £108 quid + VAT whilst Halfords will settle for £22 including VAT.
I'm glad I didn't buy it from the dealer, 'cos it didn't fix it! This weekend I finally worked out that it was the rotor arm. I'm pretty baffled - this was the first place I checked and the arm / cap were clean and unmarked. In desperation I swapped the arm and it is sweet as a nut now.
I can carry on with the brake upgrade now!
Cheers
