Fitting 2" lift tomozz any tips????

Im fitting dads 2" lift from paddocks tomorrow as its supposed to be dry.

I have WD40'd all the bolts so they should be ok.

Just wondered if there is any tips on doing it???


im planning on doing 1 corner at a time. Undoing everything dissconnecting brake lines and the lifting the chassis with a engine hoist high enough to fit the new springs etc.... and repeat all round...

I would disagree about the spring compressors having fitted over 17 inch springs front and rear, you just need a bottle jack to force the front axle down. and thats with a bodge sLU in the fitted to the rear of a RRC.

Spring compressors can be used but aren't essential if you can get the vehicle high enough and the axle low enough.

Beware of forcing the axle down with a jack, it works really well but keep an eye on your brake lines and bushes etc.

Anyone had troubles getting the lower shock bolt off of the front???


Gonna go buy a blow torch to heat it up and see if that helps.....


Its the only thing holding my back........... oh and possibly the brake pipes as they look a bit rusted together..

I used a large pair of mole grips on the shock body to stop it from spinning.

Yeah thats what i wass using but it just wouldnt budge..

good old blow torch worked wonders but did melt the old rubber though ...


just gotta put the new spring in now and thats 1 side done.. only 3 more to go.......

On the rear axle - un-do the brake pipe 'T' piece at the top of the axle - dont take the pipes off, just the mounting nut, that way when you jack the axle down with the bottle jack you'll get a bit more room as the pipes will flex before over-stressing the flexi hose.  Then when you put it back on, you'll notice the bolt is waaaaay longer than the 'T' peice - throw some washers under it to raise it up and it'll take some of the strain off the flexi untill you fit a new longer one............

i have got the new extended flexis to fit too. but all the connections look nice and rusty so may end up splitting the copper pipes and getting new ones..


just tried putting the front back together and looks really awkward till i realised ahhh haaa take the turret off and drop thye shock through the top :)  :oops:  :oops:  :oops:

just WD40'd the securing bolts and hoping it comes off in tact :o  :o


also the new 2" springs are the same size as the old ones  :?  :?  :?  :?


Surely they should be 2" taller????

Ther are 2 main measurements of springs, free length and stiffness (spring rate)

If a spring is stiffer, but the same length then for a given load it will be compressed less so give a higher ride height.

If they were the same spring rate then they would have to be taller, but most aftermarket springs are stiffer, and useually stiffer by a fair amount if you compare them to the soft springs on range rovers.

I can vouch for that as I did mine at the weekend... the old rear springs were actually taller than the new ones!

I was unsure as to whether it had been a success as I forgot to measure before starting the work... when I'd done and climbed in.. or rather tried to... my backside bounced of the side of the drivers seat! Job done!

yeah they are a lot stiffer and look a lot thicker too.


will hopefully get the other 3 finished tomorrow and the one i started today finished too.


at least i know how to do it on mine now. :)
