Had no problems so far Gav. We did think about the pressure for a while and ended up thinking that the pressure was probably not enough to worry about. Besides, the tubing I used was translucent white so I can keep an eye on it anyway.

Ends up being a very neat and tidy arrangement too. Used proper pneumatic push fit connectors into the rear of the air box. Looks like it's supposed to be like that.

Had thought about dooing that with the breathers on the zook too. Intake for the little comressor for the dizzy and headlamp vets is taken from the botton of the snorkel, doesnt matter so much about pressure there as theres a compressor in the way.

Safari snorkels are certainly tougher than Zook bodywork, ours has had a fair bit of punishment, seen a few grilles in the top smashed on others though. The Zooks also seems to accumulate water at the elbow at time too, easilly solve with a little drain plug.

Depends on where you shop.
The Safari is very easy to fit compared to the other brands, mainly because you dont have to remove the wing to fit it.
Steve Ray is spot on...
Make sure you state your vehicle type, engine type and whether you have ABS or not.
The ABS difference is lenght of the snorkle along the wing.
ABS is a long wing snorkle, no ABS is shorter.

My disco has no ABS but the air box looks to be in the same place as a disco with ABS and i dont know which safari snorkel to get! :?

The Disco's with Abs enter nearer the front of the car and enter from the side of the air box.
The Cars without enter nearer the front door and enter the air box at the rear (where the abs would be if it was fitted)
Just advise the shop you are buying from of your car details (and chassis number if you like)
They will know which to send/sell you

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and personaly I think the safari ones spoil the look of the car.

I prefer the subtle look of the mantec one which retains more of the original looks and looks like a camel trophy.

Fitting is straight forward once you take the outer wing off, which is no big hardship. the templates supplied look a bit basic but do the job.

I have fitted a 'mushroom' top from matt savage to get a G4 appearance.

I fitted A 200Tdi model to my 300 in order to move the intake further back allowing me to use the secondary battery position in front of the air box. I also fitted a 200 Tdi air box but I intend to go back to a modified 300 box when I get round2it.

Can you fit a 200tdi snorkel onto a 300tdi then, what mods are required :?:
I'm currently watching an Airflow snorkel that looks the same as a Safari snorkel on Ebay. I wanted a new snorkel but can't afford it now so if I can get this then great :P

Yes but you also need the 200tdi airbox. it sits further back than a 300airbox and the air intake goes out of the side into the innerwing. With a 200tdi there is space for a second battery exactly where the current one sits but on the lefthand side.

I have a Safari snorkel for a 300TDi but the car I bought it for is dead and I now have a 3.9V8 on gas.

Any tips on converting the "under bonnet bits" to fit the airbox.

On this one it is at the front passenger side not in the rear middel as seems to be the case on Skibums earlier photos - I presume this is a 3.5?

it might help someone so i thought id post it

firstly make sure you have the right tools ,listed in the fitting instructions ,drill, spanners,file,screwdriver,and lots and lots of sillicon sealer

always check you have all the bits supplied before fitting

remove airbox ,blank off air hole with plug supplied ,use sillicone,grind ribs off the side with a grinder

mark and bolt new vent to airbox
mark around new vent and cut holes for intake pipe

bolt intake to airbox using sealer,nuts and bolts
find a clean wing (yea right ) to stick the template to ,and using a suitable marker draw along the outlines

drill and cut using hascksaw whenever possible ,tidy edges with a file

make a sutable hole in flitch and using rubber strip put along edge
put snorkle in place ,tighten the 5 nuts and secure to door piller ,the mounting plate is angled ,with 3 bolts and 5 pop rivets

once thats done you can install the airbox ,make sure all is sealed well ,the snorkle comes supplied with jubille clips and a rubber tube seal

and after all that the end product

sorry to reserect his thread from the grave but I have sold my fishing gear and now have some money to get a snorkel. I'm trying to keep it on the cheap as I have many repairs to do but I'm not looking to do the DIY version, looks too complicated for me LOL !
I've seen on ebay that southdown sell the bits seperatley and they can do me a complete seconds snorkel for Â£130 I think it was. The only snag that I wanted to know is with the head , does it push water out like the safari or does it enter and go down.

Very spooky...I have literally just ordered a Southdown for Â£130 all in, I'll be fitting it next week so I'll let you know how it goes. IMHO it's the best looking...the polished stainless finish is a bit bling so Dave at Southdown is going to satin finish mine...so hopefully it should kinda match the alloys on my truck. WRT to water ingress, apparently most of the water is atomised, and if it's a monsoon you can turn the ram air bit round.

I'll take some pix during fitting and post them in my gallery.
