Discovery Axle/tranfer/gearbox breathers.

Looking at the cheapest way to put breathers on my Disco's axles/transferbox/gearbox, anyone know where I can get the correct banjo bolts (someone mentioned some fuel fittings may work?).

Micro-irrigation pipe from the gardening section of B&Q - It pushes onto the existing fittings once you've cut the old pipe off carefully so as not to score the metal pipe, then route it along the chassis up to bulkhead level as high as you want - I did my front and rear axle for less than a fiver.  Once I have a snorkel fitted, I'll just 'T' the 2 pipes together into one, same with the g/box and t/box then route the 2 pipes up the snorkel to get them as high as possible using the 5M or so I have left on the roll I bought.  Easy.

What size fittings are required?  Are they a BSP size?

4 not including fuel or crancase breathers.

Get 1/8 BSP elbow swivels from a hydraulics supplier.

Did mine this weekend, really good. Busy at mo but will post a pic tonight.

Depending how deep you go the fuel tank is not the biggest issue, in fact if you have a carbon cannister on your car (92? onwards?) then the fuel tank is better protected than the axles or boxes, pluss it's a lot further back in the car.

I bought a kit off some chap on here. Cant remember his name now though. Looks really neet as all the pipes got to a manifold you bolt to the bulk head then 1 pipe goes up the snorkel edge or where ever you want.

I still cant find my gearbox or transfer box breathers so haven't plumbed them in yet. anyone know where they are?

Located on the top of the box. If you have the limb size and articulation of a spider monkey then you can do them from underneath.

If however you have forearms like Popeye and fingers like cows tits as I have, go via the centre console. It means drilling some rivets out but at least you can see what ur doin!

I have arms in the middle of a spider monkey and cows tits.

Mine is auto box and I cheated and used a straight connector from original pipe for the two from g/box & t/box  8) and extended with 6mm o/d nylon pneumatic tubing  :wink:

There are off the shelf kits avalible for breathers which include all 5 breathers (inc a new timing case plate with breather holes fitted)
Most good 4x4 parts dealers will stock them.

Hi Dave, sorry for the delay.

Its a place called anchor hydraulics in wigan. Leeds street on the miry lane ind estate near 7 stars bridge.

They were about £3 each.
