smelly carpets !!!
« on: July 02, 2007, 22:31:00 »
What can i replace the front carpets with in my Disco. They are permanently wet, so i have two options.
1 st is to pull the carpets out and seal up evey hole i can find or replace them with something better.
Mrs wizard suggested a type of  spray on bed liner ( the type that is used on the load bed of pickups) I have seen rubber mats that fit in the Defenders but dont think they make them for Disco's.
I dont fancy chequer plating the whole inside, so what alternatives do i have ?

I was looking for a fully fitted set, like wot Defenders do have . I have tried to get Mrs wizard to sell her Freelander  and buy a D90 but she wants to keep the freebee and get a D90 !!!

Richard, the bed liner was what i was thinking of, but was concerned about the noise being amplified.

I'll have a look about next week  and see what i can find.

Suzuki has the same problem from time to time. so I have classy lino I can throw out at a moments notice :

I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Most of the wet comes from under the carpet with the sound deddening sponge, drying mine out at the moment

The actual carpet is waterproof backed so easy to sort out

All I've done with my Disco1 is cut the caroet & sound-proofing material away to expose the bare metal - then put the rubber mats back in.
That way you don't get the matting holding water and rotting thru' the floor

(makes it feel a bit like my old 90 I guess)  :D

After loads of attempts to cure leaks including removing the redundant mud flap brackets under the front passenger seat, I found the culprit to be the main cable loom grommet was badly fitted from new - it,s behind the washer bottle and in the V created where the wheel arch meets the front bulkhead.

could you not get some spray on water sealent or get some heavy duty pvc like they use on water beds and glue the pvc to the floor and then put all the carpets etc back in?

This is what I did when my rear floor rusted through and everytime I went through a ford the boot ended up drenched. I only put down a sheet of plastic then and it worked perfectly fine.

This way the sound proofing is waterproofed and the disco looks like a disco inside with little noise.

Most expensive item for a Disco is????? a round piece of paper stuck on the windscreen!

Im hopefully getting some industrial sound insulation matting from www.wrightoffroad.com. Unfortunately he doesnt do a disco fitted system (yet) but a bit of time and effort with a stanley should yield good results!

I know the bloke who makes them- hes sound and will be able to advise you te best way to deal with it!

Not that bad, a friend at TV4x4 (Pegleg666) has no carpets in his truck and I don't think it is that much noiser.
