Why else cast Catherine (absolutely no talent whatsoever) Tate as the new assistant.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

thats a bit harsh isnt it?

are you basing her talentless comment on her acting or her own show? or you just dont like her?

Her show is pants and lacks humour, the staple of a comedy sketch show.

I agree with evilgoat.  What a waste of space as a comidienne, she's the female equivalent of Ricky Gervais or whatever his name is.  They both love the sound of their own voices and have as much acting talent as a tin of beans (watery netto ones at that, too)!

Jasper Carrot would be the first that comes to mind. Brian Connoley.... Theres dozens.

And the role isnt supposed to be played by a comedian anyhow.

Where did you find this out?

Just had a quick look on the BBC website and could only find info on her being in last years christmas special.

i do agree that she would be rubbish in Dr Who.

it's the new form of comedy ..

Comedy that's soooo funny you forget to laugh, or smile, or even retain the will to be awake

All that aside, the beeb have just screwed Dr Who then. I like Catherine Tate BUT that is a complete aside from the fcat that she should NOT be the new assistant, neither should Kylie be in the Xmas special and they are planning guest stars a-la Friends.

[Edited] do they have to put 'celebrities' into everything? Why does everything successful in this country have to be changed, i.e. ruined?

What the heck is wrong with Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman)??, she's gorgeous, feisty & intelligent!

Whilst enjoying the special with Catherine Tate, I don't see her as a regular companion.

i agree, i doubt catherine could commit to more than one series, and i hope she proves you all wrong.

i think martha was ace, bit more feisty than billie piper, although billie did a good job.

i just hope david tennant stays on cos he is mint as the doctor, maybe a bit more so than chris ecclestone, that look in tennant's eyes makes you a bit wary of him, bloody scot!

Martha is apparently to return in episode 7 having spent the first six episodes at torchwood (presumably in the start of season 2)
